After searching Servicehonda.com parts schematics, I'm thinking it could be possible to bolt the tr200 Stator cover, starter, and flywheel to the 86 200x and have a bolt on electric start option? The 86 200x already has the 2 standoffs for mounting an electric starter. Anyone have any knowledge of this possible swap?

trx200 engine = fatcat engine i believe. This may work!

TRX = quad.
TR = FatCat I'm assuming.

pretty sure ith some work, using half of 200x and half of trx crankshaft, and mix the trany parts, you can built a 200x with electric start and reverse

The cores are the same I think. I know the clutch basket, clutches, springs, and maybe the pressure plate are the same. This would be really cool to do!
In this ebay ad that is not mine at all. You can clearly see the case halves. How does it look? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-Honda-Fat-Cat-TR200-Engine-Motor-Cases-/160680586993?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item25694f2ef1

I also have shared the same idea for a few months now and have begun compiling a parts list needed to do this along with spending a lot of time comparing many pics of the cases and various covers. I think the best bet would be to try to keep it the X 6-speed trans and not mess with the auto-clutch and reverse from the fatcat. Couple of things to consider...
1. You are going to need to make a custom wire harness that is a hybrid of the X and fatcat
2. The kicker on the fatcat is a backward kick so there are some internal differences possibly screwing up the ability to forward kick start it when you consider the electric start clutch gear. Sure it can be done though after some surgery and comparing the parts.
3. You will need to use the right case from the X and the left case from the fatcat so you will end up with two oil drain plugs (not really a big deal)
4. The fatcat uses a manual decompression lever on the head instead of the cable setup. Fairly easy to switch the parts over though.
5. It looks like the X shifter would work right on the shaft after ditching that wacky linkage from the fatcat motor. You may need a shaft from the fatcat motor since the case cover on the fatcat is thicker than the X case.
I'm sure there is lots more... I'm thinking in order to do this correctly, you need two complete motors, a copy of Young Frankenstein DVD, some beer and a lot of patience.
If anyone on here knows the inner workings of a second gen 200x motor, its Dirtcrasher. He may have some insight on the feasibility of this or at least tell us we are idiots, or both!

I'm 90% sure you will have chain alignment issues if you use the Fatcat left case. The front sprocket doesn't sit as "deep" as the 200x so that it can run the fat rear tire without using a jack shaft. I'll take some pics and post them up.

Why not use the trx200 left crankcase?
Left 200sx case
right 200x case
left cranshaft side from the 200sx
right crankshaft side from the 200x
manual clutch,cover,kickstart from the 200x
200x topend
=
atc200x with electric start,pullstart,kickstart,and reverse
if spacer, shafts and everything fit, pretty sure it work...

:wondering:wondering:rolleyes: seems like alot of trouble for e start no proformance gain ? just keep " kicking " :D good luck

I believe Leevarnardo (SP?) tried to get something similar put together and said that it didn't line up. I think he was using 200SX parts and not trying Fat Cat parts but I could be wrong.
I've seen guys here do some amazing things. This board is filled with so much talent here in comparison to 10yrs ago; They may have been out there, just not posting at 3WW :beer

i did try something similar,if i remember correctly, all the case halves did line up but the problem i ran into was the crank halves were made differently and would have been unbalanced.

Maybe it sounds WAY to simple to work, but would the stator cover from the fatcat bolt on, throw on the flywheel and starter clutch from the fatcat, bolt on fatcat starter. The stator cover from the fatcat looks to be very very similar to the 200x in means of bolt pattern.

This is a fatcat with a 200x engine in it. So im assuming the mounts are the same.
Not sure if this is of any help.
Maybe a guy on the forum will lend you a side cover you could try on the 200x

@aka_am Clutches are the same? Fatcat is semi-auto isn't it? and 200x is manual?
@leevarnado That thread that you posted appears to be all about first gen 200x which would be completely different from the fatcat and 86-87 200x?
@350xx Got a link to that particular bike?

Well here's the pics I was talking about - they are not the greatest. The Fatcat sprocket will be just outside the case half and the 200x is just inside it - that's about the width of the chain off. I'd be very curious as to how the Fatcat with the 200x motor got this to work - maybe the motor mounts are different on the 2 - offset to 1 side...who knows. Doesn't look like it would line up right to me. First 2 are the Fatcat - 3rd is the 200x. If anyone wants to try it out and needs some Fatcat cases, I'd be happy to sell the ones I have.

It looks like the casting marks are the same, the 200x is just milled down and the fatcat is left closer to cast. The bearing is in the same spot, see the though the holes?

What about that company called "Goki"? I haven't seen an ad in dirtwheels from them in a long time. I know they offered electric start kits for the 200s,185s, 350x, etc. I don't remember if they offered it for the 200x but I would think they would, however the second generation could be a diff story. I believe 2003-2005 era was the last I remember seeing them advertise in dirtwheels. But I'm not sure when they quit. Surely someone else on here can tell us the scoop on "Goki".
