Quiting is a PITA.. But i did it too. Smoked for years and when i wanted to quit i was stressed due to bills and the impending birth of my first son.. So i quit because i didn't want him exposed to it, but only with the help of meds from the doctor. Forget those gums and patches they don't work for... The key to quitting is to get rid of the Nicotine, putting it in using another product only weens you off the smoke but not the underlying cause. I went on Wellbutrin at the encouragement of my doctor, after a week of smoking and taking the pills the smokes starting tasting horrible and i quit, that was almost 12 years ago now!
The money got channeled to bills and next thing you know i was caught up, funny how that happens.

You know guys, all it takes is positive will power. You really should want to quit also. Those are the best 2 tools to quit smoking IMHO... Luckily for me I had a great bunch of people around me to help me get over the urges, yes neither of them smoked which made it easier. I was someone who smoked close to 2 packs a day and quit cold turkey. Hell I even have a thread on here on how to roll your own for peat sake! The first week, week and a half were the toughest. a lot of it is in your mind, I'm a firm believer of that. I used to think that I needed a smoke to fall asleep, and to wake up in the morning.. I still hang around with some people that smoke on a weekly basis but it doesn't bother me at all. But damn, I can tell a smoker from 20 feet away now :lol I can't stand the smell of them now, but to each their own...I just realised that it's been 2 years for me not having a smoke at all!! :w00t: :w00t: yay me!! The only downside is, if you have a slow metabolism, you will gain some weight for sure...well good luck, thats my .02 cents

I got acupuncture that's how I quit after smoking for 23 years. My brother in law smoked 3-5 packs a day seriously, and he quit by getting acupuncture. That is why I tried it and it worked for me too.

I have been smoking 2 packs a day for 16 years. Said I would never Quit. Woke up one morning and went to the pharmacy and bought the patch. Followed the directions and when that was done I did the nicotine gum. I went 7 months hapily smoke free and decided to have one for old times sake.... bought a pack the next day and I'm right back at it again..... Good inspiration here though.

I'm a real dumb*&^ and smoke a pipe.
Oh it's better, cheaper, no full cigarette comittment, one puff put it down,
yeah right. how's about I just sign up for lip cancer....
Seems like most addictions follow similar rules.
Nicotine darn near has it's own neuroligic receptors in the brain.
Harder to quit than heroine, they say.
associate with pain? snap a rubber band on the wrist when craving?
associate with pleasure? m and m's ?
Get up in the morning, make coffee, light up?
The behavior mods say change it up.
Drink tea, have a snack and try to put it off for a minute, then 2.
Never smoke inside....ANYthing, house, car etc.
Pretty amazing how much of a reflex it becomes.
Neighbor always said her truck wouldn't start without a cigarette.
When Zappa was diagnosed, he stated that tobacco was a vegetable.
Funny 'cause we all have times we can go for hours without.
Blood levels seem to drop every 20 minutes, hence the maintenance dosages.
isn't there some 'quitnow dot gov website or something?
I just Love some of the foreign tobacco packages...
full color pix of open heart surgery etc, but for some reason I really wanted to try one.
wow
Congrats to all who've ever tried, and those who won.
To those who haven't started, you'll never have to quit.

UPDATE:
This Saturday will be 500 days since I have had a cigarette and about 14 months since I have put any nicotine into my body.
I still get a craving about 1-2 times a day, but they aren't strong urges and they go away within a minute or two.
Coming from someone who smoked hard core (entire pack of cigarettes between my front door and Haspin Acres, for example).....
If I can quit, ANYONE can quit.
By my calculations, I have saved about $3500 on cigs in that time. That would buy a pretty cherry three wheeler in this day and age.

Congrats.
Five years for me. Will be six on July 24th.
I smoked a pack of cigs a day minimum since 1988. Plus I dipped a can of Grizzly every two days while I smoked and also smoked cigars and chewed plug and pouch tobacco on occasions on top of cigs and dip.
Totally tobacco free since 2010.

Dipped Copenhagen can a day from age 14 to 25 smoked cigs from age 18 to 25, when my grandfather died of lung cancer. Quit both for almost a year, then my friend brad shot himself in 2006 and I said fvck it, started both again. Promised his little brother I wouldn't use brads death as an excuse to hasten my own, quit again in 2007. Had to quit drinking entirely for a year and a half to make it because it was a major trigger.
I have been smoke free for 9 years, dipped about a half a can At MMI when I tried quitting weed. Came to my senses and threw that away again after a week. Spit bottles are disgusting. Still smoke a little grass, but not very often anymore. Won't ever use tobacco again.

Smoking is a dirty filthy habit, and the smoke from smokers affects others around them and stinks up their clothes etc, and many of the smokers I have seen are careless with their ashes and often unwittingly, or wittingly, drop them on other peoples floors, especially when they are in a drunken stupor.
I used to think it was cool to smoke, so when I was around 16 I would have a cigarette going when I went to the local pool hall just because I thought it would make look cool, however, I only did it for "appearances" sake and only inhaled maybe twice, at which point I immediately got dizzy and felt sick, so after a couple months, I realized how incredibly stupid it was and that I could instead take the money I was spending on cigarettes which I didn't like and use it to hang out on the side of the local Liquor store with and try to get people to buy us something that I and my friends all liked.
