View Full Version : busted cam chain on 200x
is there anything that could be causing me to bust a cam chain, when i first finished my engine build put a new DID chain just to be safe, lasted about 3 gas tanks of riding and busted while i was in 4th gear over some desert whoops. I got a new chain and i also changed the 2 chain guides even though the other 2 seemed to be in good good shape. should i swap out the tensioner as well or could i have just gotten a bad cam chain to begin with? i dont feel my build is powerful to bust cam chains but i could be wrong. 10.25 cr piston and the items on my sig

Was there any other damage?
Did it come in contact with something?
I tossed in a DID in my 87X and haven't had any issues; Maybe you got a b um chain.
Curious to see what Shortline says......

I would say something isn't lining up correct and causing wear at the chain pins or maybe the casting in the case near the botton sprocket has broken and causing it to snag and break . I have never seen one break for no reason .
cleaned everything, chain had a clean break through a pin. drained the oil to check for any pieces in there with a magnet and didnt find anything. with the new chain and guides that chain moves smoothly when no apparent binding. went out for a ride last night and ran through a whole gas tank with no probs. im going out to the sand dunes next weekend to hit some big dunes and hopefully not get stranded.
