Got a 1984 200x with 200s engine. Needs minor work. Such as hand grips, front sprocket, and rubber grommets. I've never had a machine with 3 front tires on it before  so it'll need some wheels and tires too. I gave $250 for it. I thought it was a deal but I'd like to hear your guys input on the value or demand for an Auto x. When I went to look at it, it would only run on full choke. (Probably because the previous owner didn't have an intake boot to connect the carb and airbox :D )
I've had a few 200x's but don't know much about the auto x's. Tell me everything you know about them. Are they worth more or less than a regular 200x? Also what is that splined shaft for to the left of the shifter?

Splined shaft is for the neutral indicator i believe.

auto x is nice if you are a little lazy, or just not too handy with a clutch. I would say an auto x machine is worth less than a stock 200 x. However if I were looking at one for the wife to ride and knew I was going to have to do the auto x conversion, then I wouldnt mind paying a little more for one already done. I think you got a helluva deal.
What kind of rubber grommets do you need? I may have them lying around. I know I have a front sprocket.

I need the two circular rubbers that go on the back of the gas tank that the seat hooks into. I also need 1 rubber that the headlight housing fits into. And I'm missing every rubber piece that goes with the seat.

Well sorry I dont have any of those that are any good. I bought a 200x for parts but the gas tank rubbers were gone. I sent the rubbers for the headlight with it when I sold it. Sorry wish I could have helped.

Not worth a fortune or anything, but definately worth the two fifty you gave for it.... Great "friends" machine for the stable...

I'd probably buy an autoX given the chance..
Been thru the gambit of clutch machines..they're ok.
But the auto-clutch machines suit my riding style..so the clutch trikes are no more in my collection.

No, they are just easier to ride and more fun for an entry level wheeler...........

only reason why i converted is to get rid of that bad kickstarter setup, for a easy pull start. so depends on buyer if they want pull start they will pay more.

How's that decompression lever coming out of the right side of the valve cover work? I move it back and forth but it doesn't seem to do much. Which way do you flip it when you want to start it?
flip the decompression lever back but in some cases the valve works off the pull starter. In other words there is a cable that runs from the lever into the pullstart housing so when you pull it will also decompress the motor at the sametime.

with mine once and a while you have to pull it over a little so the valve comes back up so it will catch. But they can wear out and not work.

They also have some adjustment in the cable on one of the ends if I remember correctly.
I havnt really had a good working decompression valve on my 185 or 200s so i dont use it but i guess it depends on the type of person. But you dont use the valve you do have to give it good pull.

could be wearing out to though. mine pulls over soo much easier with compression release. Also mine has no hookup for a cable since its a 82 model motor.

The auto x's are really fun, and in the snow, much better than manual. They are probly a little less value compared to an original 200x. They can handle some mods, but dont get too carried away, the clutch(s) will begin to slip, where the 200x manual clutch can handle a lot more, and you can really build the engine up. The main issue with the auto x build is the rear brake lever, as the stock 200x rear brake pedal is mounted on the 200x engine itself. Its not too complicated to figure out, but requires a little thought. Nice buy!

Looks like the previous owner had it on backwards. Also how can I tell what year the motor is? Are there any easy to spot differences between an 83 or an 84? 136982136983

Take the engine serial number to a honda dealer and he can tell you exactly what it came from and what year. Just a thought
