Hi guys I am going to say sorry for any bad spelling and grammer now!!
I have been thinking about this for the past few months and I think it is time to start sharing with all of you. A few member may already know what is in store for my poor beat to hell 200X witch right now is a auto-X. I have been buying a few parts off of ebay and from people around my area, I was really lucky to get a full suppertrapp system, 3'+ wheel spacers, 2nd gen 250R forks and tripples, 350X rear shock, bran new front tire for $20 all bearings and seal, pro tapper bars and there is probably alot more that i am forgetting but It will all come up later. As for the bike It is going to build over this winter into a running bike so I can work any issuse out over the summer and then next winter it come apart and becomes pretty:)
Engine:I am planning finding a 200x engine and rebuilding it with a tranny out of a 1982 xr 200:naughty: that I traded a tool box for or i will just use the xr engine and just rebuild the topend it has 80psi compression and needs a head gasket really bad could be why it has low compression.
Suspension: I am going to use forks and tress from the 2nd gen 250r parts bike that I bought when I had my R. The rear suspension will been a 350x shock and I am not sure yet about what I am going to do for the rear swingarm. My bike is an 83 and has round tub swingarm and I don't really want to cut it up. I was thinking about getting a 84-85 swingarm off of ebay and cuting it up to make it work with the 350x shock like Tapper190 did or I was thining about making a custom swingarm that would be 2-3" longer then stock. but I am not sure yet.
Looking good: I will panit a few parts just to keep them from rusting up but I am not going out of my way to make it look good yet. That will come next year if everthing works out right with school and work.
This build will take some time but I am plaing on getting it started soon hopfully with in the next month or two. I have some dumb P.O.S. atv in my shop right now that I have to rebuild for a family member.
Thansk for readding my thread
here is a new few pic's there is some of the parts that I keep in my room (don't tell my mom), the xr 200 that is going to give up its life to make one sweet trike, and a few pic's of my X from the last time I had it out (spring that just past)

2 to 3 feet is a heck of an extension for a swing arm. 2 to 3 inches will probably be enough. LOL I know what you meant.....I think.

i would use the xr top end with a new pistion on the 200x tranny so you dont have to take your fender off to start it dont seem like a pain in the ass when your thinking about it but it sucks after it stalls a couple times

oh you ment the tranny gears inside right i thouht you were going to use the xr case witch will case even more problems than a revese kick you would also losse your brake lever and mount even with my 185 that was a pain in the ass to fix

So you can just swap the XR gears out with the 200X gears? Sweet!
What is the benefit? Different gear ratios? Better acceleration? More top end?

i think its a 6th gear

change the gear mechanism over and use the xr top end on the 200x bottom end, i bet she would be a blast then. Also the extra gear is amazing I love the 6th gear on my 87 x ;) if I ever build a first gen 200x it will be a xr200 swap also.

also, I know what its like to hide parts from your mom :O I get cheap with my gas even though she gives me plenty for gas and I saved my lunch money for a while but she relized what I was doing and started giving me checks for lunch >:/

I have never tryed it befor this will be my 6 speed 200x I havn't even looked to see what the gear ratio are in the xr all I know is that it gives you one more gear witch will really help when roading running from trail to trail.

Just a thought, looking at the cases from the xr to the 200x, they look to be almost the same. What about just changing the kick start spindal in the xr200 to a 200x, use the 200x clutch cover and you should have a forward kicking xr200. The bad, you still have to split the cases, but if it works, you don't need to find a 200x bottom end ( I do know a guy that has a few, lol)

i was thinking about this to but i think you would be missing a gear needed to spin the motor the opposit direction with a foward kick

That's why you would have to use the 200x kick spindal and the 200x clutch cover.

Hi guy's sorry I havn't done any work to the bike it is still up at my farm and i havn't finshed the stupit atv i am fixing. (polaris : mad:) but I am going up there tomrrow to get it out and take it for alittle run around the farm. I also score a (used) axle, bearing carrier, rotor, and 2 4x110 hubs from work. Best part is that the axle isn't worn done where the bearing sit. This axle kinda just made my week alot better. I will try and get the girl friend to grab some pic's of it tomrrow.

Hi guys Sorry I havn't got any work done on the bike its still at my farm. I got the enigne riped out of my xr today and I got to say the trike gods were on my side, both the exhaust studs came out :w00t: I was so happy that they didn't brake off at the head and they didn't screw up the threads in the head. :D I also did some reseach to see about the gear ratios between the X and XR. It is pretty sweet the x and xr have the same ratios up until 6th gear.

So I don't think I am going to have to change my chain and sproket up to much witch is going to be pretty sweet in my books.

It's time for the machine shop. I had a few hours to take the topend apart on the xr engine and I am really surprised, this engine has good cam races, the pistion is still std, gudgeon pin just fell right out, and the exhaust studs didn't brake off at the head. But the rings are why out of specs and cylinder is pitted and will need to be bored. All in all not to bad for an engine that had 80psi compression and burnt more oil then gas. I still need to take some time and clean everthing up and pick out a new pistion. What do you guys think I should put into it for a pistion O.E.M. or Weisco the weisco is 10.25 to 1 compression ratio and the O.E.M. is 10 to 1. Price doesn't really mattery

Hi guys. I made the trip down to see tapper190 the other day to pick up a few parts that were need to try and complet my build on the bike. I came home with a nice 84-85 swingarm, front tire/rim, kicker, shifter, rear skip pane, and a complett bottem end. I has very happy with the deals Dave gave me he is an outstanding guy. I had some time to get my engine building bench cleaned up and ready so I can start to the xr tranny swap. I started with the 200x bottem end first just to see what everthing looked like becuase that is the casing I will be useing. I founed some chunks of wood sitting at the bottem of the cases and the i have never seen an oil filter that was so dirty I guess I will be putting all new bearing in that engine now . I havn't got into the xr bottem end yet maybe I will tonight after work. My also seem that my bike doesn't want to come home either everytime i try and bring it home something happens and it never seems to find its way in the trailer :(. My dad say he is going to bring it home this weekend for me. :D
Thanks you for the poeple who have been reading my thread I know It is coming along pretty slow. It is hard for me to try and keep up with school a girl friend and two jobs. One of my jobs is taking apart wreched atv and motorbikes it seems that I will get pissed at work and then come home and not want to go out side and work on my own stuff.
Sory about any bad spelling and the pic's didn't turn out the greatest either
Thanks Aaron

Sorry, as I said to you before, I didn't know anything about that bottom end, I picked it up with a bunch of bottom ends and just put it on the shelf. The day before you came I just noticed the kicker was welded on, lol. On the good side, the oil cleaner was doing it's job, lol. When I [ulled apart my first 200x, it was that dirty, I don't think most people know that it's in there and it has to be cleaned. I was talking with a guy that owns an '86 250sx since new, he didn't know that there is a internal screen in his either.
Do the bearings feel tight still? Was there any bad gears in the tranny or kick starter?

Tapper Nothing to be sorry about I knew what I was getting into buying this. The bearing still seem fine I am just going to cleaning them out and runing them for this year. I havn't gotten into to check out the tranny yet and the kick starts shows sings that it is a slipper. I am going to see what the xr looks like if its better then I will just swap over the gears onto the x shaft.

Hi guys I finally had some time to start working on the frame and suspension on my bike. I working all yesterday after school I got a the bike up on my welding bench and set at the new ride height that I want 1-1/2 more then stock. I started to strip it down aswell I was very happy with it, it only broke three bolts off skip pane. I also got some work down to my swingarm at school yesterday, I have to say what a pain in the azz it was to cut off the old rear shock mouths.
Sorry for any bad speeling and pic's

Hi guys so I finshed cleaning up my rear swingarm today at school I went throught two grinding wheels. lol I had an hour before I had to go to work so I played around with the bike. I got the swingarm, rear axle and the fornt end back on the frame to just see what it would look like. I was so happy with it I went a head and put the tanks, seat, fenders and bars back on. I am very happy with the the look of the bike.

The 350X shock isn't much better. Do as you wish but I'd either fork out the $$ for a good shock or change the mounts etc to accept another longer travel shock. Just my opinion........
An 83/84 250R front end would be a nice compliment to this :beer

Thanks for the input DC. That is a 2nd gen 250r front end in the last 2 pic's. I would love to go out and buy a longer travel shock but I am trying to work on a budget and I found that 350x shock on ebay for pretty cheap and my boss said he would servies it for me for $25. It really hard for me to spends alot of money because I am 18 and have a car to pay for and college is just around the corner aswell.

Hi guys I havn't done alot to the bike over the pasted few days it has been a little to cold for me to go out and work in the shop. It wasn't that cold when I got home from school so I went out and started to take apart the xr bottem end. I really don't know how this bikes ran befor I took it apart. It is missing the oil filter on the end of the crank shaft:wondering. Some one please correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the oil have to go through it then into the clutch case then up to the topend? or does it leave the pump and go right to the crank and topend then come back down to the filter through the case. I know when I took the xr topend apart that it had lots of oil and nothing shows that it had ran without oil.

Update Hi guy I have had a few days off school and I have been working on bike after I get home from work. I have got alot done in the past fews day and I am really happy with the way a few things are going together. I spent a day or two trying to get the 250r tripple trees to work with the 200x it seemed that nothing from the all balls steerting stem bearing kit would work where it should. I ended up using the 200x stem in the 250r tripple with the rolling bearing on the bottem and the stock ball bearing up top. But I wantsn't happy with the fit so I sent the lower tripple out to get shaved down where the stem goes into. The ars end is turning out really well and I am very happy with it. I made the rear swing arm adjustably so I could change the ride height if I wanted to. There is three differnt ride heights that I can chose the losses hole to the front of the bike will give me the most heights and the middle hole is the one I am goin to be useing all the time. The last hole will be for ice racing or If i deside to lower the bike. The air box was another problem, I can't run it if I want to use the lowest setting on the swingarm becuase the shock will hit it. I had to bend the air box in abite in the front to clean the shock for the middle setting. not to hard just used some heat and a big pipe. I am up in the air about the rest of the swing arm I am thinking about boxxing the back half of it in. I am not %100 sure tho yet. Thanks Aaron

I have made the 250r front end fit into the X, and I have almost finshed up my swingarm, I just need to clean it up abit. So I was really wanted to get my bike off the bench and onto its wheels. It took me 20min to get the bike back on the ground and itno a roller. :) I am very happy with the suspension and ride heights. I havn't yet set the bike up on for the other ride heights yet.140665140666140667140668 140669[

Nice build!
How did it go about the xr tranny swap? Did it just fit right into the X cases without any modification? Looking up to do the same on my new X as I need to split cases to fix a slipping kickstart. I already got an xr engine.
