I have owned this machine for about 2 months and have been tinkering with it but im stumped. My 1984 atc 250r is lacking top end power. Bought it with the problem that it wouldnt start and run right. So i had got the trike into the doctors office and found that it needed a bore. So then had the top end completely rebuilt a month into the rebuild process and the back carrier gave me issues had to order a new one but thats a different topic. However the trike was rebuilt and has about 2 hrs of run time on the machine, if that. The machine will not pull a wheelie but will cruise totally doesnt have all the snot that it should. It doesnt load up because it doesnt poor smoke out the exhaust. Their is a br8es in it. running 32:1 oil to gas mixture with a ratio right. took the reeds off and they function fine but have like darker fluid riding in them, again movement was functioning & thought it was condensation. The carb was completely gutted; used a grill brush wire to rub any dirt in the jets and gumout carb clean; floats arent sticking either. The throttle needle is up so 5 notch's show. Messed with the air to fuel as well all within 1.5 turns and 2 3/4 turns. The stock 130 jet was in it. the PLug looks a little on the darker side but its not soaking in oil. The fuel runs from the tank to carb fine. However the idle screw on the carb needs to be all the way in to idle. Which would tell me theirs an air leak. Sprayed the boots down with starter fluid to see if engine would change pitch and that was also a fail. Compressions 125 after 3 kicks. But i still think the machine is lean. I need some knowledge to help get me thru this so i can RIDE ON. Thank you
:trikesown:

P.S do you think its crank seals?!?

Did you jet up after the bore?

I tried the 135 and it ran worse

guess I do not understand your explination on where the clip is on the needle? if it is in the 5th slot either way your jetting is way off. I believe you are saying it is in the very bottom slot? If so you are using your main jet to compensate for to small of a pilot jet. This also makes sense that you have the idle screw in all the way raising the needle out of the main even farther. sounds more like you have a plugged pilot jet. did you take it our and can you see through it? should be able to hold it to light and see a clear round path through it. If so you need to go up at least 2 sizes of pilot, drop your needle back down to center position and try that.. Most times you do not need to re jet after a bore of .020 displacement will not make that much difference unless you were real low on compression before new bore. Although your 125lbs does not sound real great for compression either. Should run but with a new bore and piston should be closer to the 140 range.. Might want to go to a different mix oil and lean it out a bit to 40:1 it will increase ring life.

Thank you a great deal thats wat i was wondering so i need to adjust that little needle on their and see where that goes the jet is clean for sure. so why sucha low compression do you think?

could be the clearance on the bore, chances are since that is an air cooled motor whomever did the bore cut it a little big to keep it from cold sieze, which has extended your ring gap.. compression should be better when motor is warm however..

motor was warm running 125 range 3 cranks.

compression seems way too low to me,I would guess it should be around 175psi with closed throttle, did you test with closed or open throttle?I would take some oil and put it in the spark plug hole and test again and see if it raises the compression.

it was a closed throttle? wat would u say from their

I would say around 175 with closed throttle and around 120 with open throttle.
