i used to own an 85 tri z 2 summers back and i remember that the light that tells you that the engine is over heating never came on now i have another 85 and was just wondering how many people actualy have seen this light come on on there tri z. is it something i should be worried about?
it would just be nice nowing that it does work and it will tell me the engine is over heating so i dont blow it up. so far the bike has not given me any probs.

i think you really got to be running it extremely hard for that light to come on.............back in85 my buddy bought one of them yamadogs brand new tri-z 250......he ran the piss out of that thing...we rode it on the ice when the river froze over........he musta did 50-60 donuts consecutively, with a good amount of throttle...before that light came on...and when it did come on he did a few more donuts before giving it a few minutes to cool off!!!

The red temp light should come on for a few seconds every time you start the bike. If not pull it from the plastic and check the bulb. If the bulb is good check on the bottom of your thermostat housing there should be a wire connected to it. This is what sends signal to the light. If it is not hooked up it won't work. They do slip off sometimes

Mine came on alot...then again, I had often impeller failures....yep shure enough I busted like 2 impellers. Now that I'm doing a COMPLETE rebuild of my engine, and putting a new waterpump assembly in, I won't have to worry about that for a while.
