Im jealous, we have no ice yet, never do this time of year but its starting to stay cold throughout the days as well. I plan on using my BR this year which will be towing a small pop-up that is officially useless for the warmer months. Should be pretty funny to see.

Thats a nice set up.I have trouble when the snow gets more than a 1ft deep and on Any lakes around me you have to have a permit.

I do minimal ice fishing around my neck of the woods. It hasnt been cold enough for anything to freeze over other than my horse water tubs, which is a pain to bust everyday!!! I do alot of steelhead fishing during the winter months but that is in Erie PA in the streams. It did get cold enough there a few years ago to ice fish the streams there though!! Get the BR back out there and lets see some lunker pics!!

I have not ice fished since I was a kid and want to get back into it, so I built a shanty and bought a big red to pull it. I wanted a shanty that was cheap, big, and could fit in the back of my truck with the three wheeler. Floor is 5/8 plywood, walls are 7/16 osb, 11mil tarp.

Sweet build there and a heck of alot cheaper than some of those you see in cabelas that will probably get destroyed in no time. Good job!

Question for you midwest folks.

I offered to let a friend fish the river that runs thru the property.

He kinda spooked and said that in Mn, St Paul, the game wardens can look in the freezer in your house, as in where you live, if they catch you without a license.

True. But a license is cheap, why risk it? Highly unlikely to happen, but it is an option the dnr has...

I'm an avid fisherman but I've never been ice fishing. I always wanted to but the Lakes don't fully freeze over near me and I'd be too afraid to fall through. I really love to fly fish on those cold days. Nothing is more challenging that fighting a fish with a frozen real.

I love ice fishing. Go every year. I have a couple ice shanties. Both 4 holes. We have propane heaters in them. We fish for smelt, perch and lake trout pretty much. I can't wait for everything to freeze over so i can go. The ends up being huge towns of shanties by mid season. No need for big reds or atv's, we just drive the truck or car right out to the shanty. I'll have to dig out some pics.

I love ice fishing but it's warmed up a little in the last few days and I don't trust the ice now around here.

May have to wait a couple of weeks now for the ice to harded up again. I like to wait until we have at least 6 or 7 inches before I take the 250sx out on the ice.

Tat-- We get towns of ice shacks here in MN... When the ice is 18" thick, there will be trucks galore. Big plow trucks on the big lakes... You know the ice is thick (lake mille lacs) when you have to put an extension on your auger bit! But when its on 5-6" thick, its BR time!
