I'd say maybe a tight throttle cable? Try turning down the idle speed screw(it goes straight into the slide valve on the right side of the carb) If this makes no difference, then it is a cable problem. Good luck.

i guess its a cable problem then...because ive taken the screw all the way out and it still wants to rev high! i wish i could figure it out, im getting too impatient, i was about 3 feet from the road with a for sale sign on it (250$, brand new piston assembly, valves, valve seats, springs, clutch, cam, cam chain) when i dad stopped me....i was pretty ticked off. any other suggestions would be great...Thanks!

Speed pull your throttle cable out of the carb and make sure the beveled edge of the slide piston is against the idle screw. It incredibly easy to get this backwards. If backwards it make your engine race....Just a thought Jen

Disconnect your throttle cable completely from the carb, so you know that the cable is not the problem. If it still idles high it is probably a lean pilot circuit. You said that it idles down when you restrict the airflow, so you are definately getting too much air somewhere. Check your intake for cracks or holes, do this by spraying carb cleaner around the intake tract, if it idles even higher, you have a leak.

yea, my bike has done the same thing. I think my carb is bad, i cant turn the idle up or down using the screw, and if i put the choke up it wont start, What a piece of trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro, im almost thinking of selling it and getting a quad. I've only ridden it once also, well good luck to you.

well...i found a crack in the intake boot (goes from the head to the carb, or vice versa). i plugged it up, and it seems like its idling a little lower, but then i found another crack in it, and im in the process of letting the gasket stuff set and harden....if this isnt the problem i dont know when im ever going to see a RM 250 or another 3 wheeler!!!!
