i'm working on this 86 tecate i just built, running odd, so i hooked a timing light to it. thought i had it set right on, still ran like crap. now i hooked it all up again and with the timing light on the mark will be right on, then the timing mark will skip to 180 out. for no aparent reason it just starts flipping. rev it up, the mark is right on, but it will skip around, let off the throttle, idles and the timing will be right on, then its gone, mark is on the bottom of the engine. it seems to flip around when ever it feels like.

whats causeing this?

stator ohms out within spec. flywheel was refurbished by john. flywheel is tight, stator is all tight, new key.

think i'm gonna try another flywheel and stator. never seen this before, really odd.

Yeah, if it turns out to be a bum fly wheel I want to know about it Shawn. In fact if fly wheel is the culprit I want it back to see what the heck I done wrong so I know not to repeat.
I have one on hand for exchange program, you give me the word and it will be in post the following day.

it was the cdi. i swaped it out and it stopped doing it.

john, the flywheel was timed off with the stator timing marks lined up. now that i moved the stator way passed where it supposed to be the flywheel is lining up with the case. i don't think its the flywheel throwing the timing 180 out for no reason, then linie back up the next sec.

just never seen this before, but never hooked a timing light up to a 2 stroke either.
