1985 250sx Well took my reverse cable to to inspect why it just goes into reverse without Holding Hand lever in.

Well Got down to where the cable goes to the Mount there on the bottom of teh Engine,.

Just as i was Tweaking it to tighten it up. BOOOOM SNAPPP!!! There went that.

Now no idea what to do besides not have reverse. There is a little lever there that spins it up to allow you to hit reverse. Now it snapped off.
Thought about Heli coil. But Idk.

Maybe i could Haxsaw some of it, So maybe a flat head Screw driver would be able to spin the broken Bolt out.

Other then that, i have no idea what to do..

Seems liek everything i try to do Some for bolt snaps off..

The guy that sold it to me is a Piece of SH&^%, lied about everything that was wrong..

Any Ideas on what to do.?
Weld a flat piece of steel to it so i can hook something up that will Spin it so i can just hit reverse again..

I would just pop the side cover off and replace the short shaft / Pin. Fairly easy fix ( 1-2 hours first time, 30 minutes or less after that ). I have a couple used ones if needed. Shipping would be the part that cost the most.

How much for shipping? I didnt realize it was a Shaft.

So this can just be replaced?

Sounds good, Give me a price on one, and ill start tearing the engine out.

Anything i would need to watch out for when taking off the right side Case? Springs going flying anything like that?

I can Pay you Wednesday

I am in Mifflinburg, PA

No need to pull the engine. Just drain the oil, pull off the side cover, remove old shaft/replace, clean surfaces, replace gasket or sealer, install cover, add oil, connect cable, then ride.

There is also a oil screen in the bottom of the motor, clean that out as long as you have the cover off...

When you pull off the cover look under the clutch pack at the bottom of the engine. Its a rubber lined screen that slips into a slot and is only accessible when the cover is off. Pull it out and spray it off with some carb/brake cleaner. Re-install before you put the cover back on.

May want to order a new case gasket, as long as you are waiting for parts too

I saw that screen on a 125 m but it looked like the chunks and crud
were on 'top' of the screen, keeping that stuff from draining out with the oil.
Not a thread hijack, just an oddity to keep in mind.
Great! idea to clean it.

Pliers and yank. Did you happen to take the clutch lever arm off of the little splined shaft? If so make sure you line up the dot on it with the little arrow on the case.

Not trying to hijack either.

Where the hell is this oil filter? I've asked before on other threads and never got a reply. Does my 125m even have one??

My apologies to the OP.

I know about the screen. It's hard to miss. Everyone kept saying there's a second filter. A centrifugal filter?

Heads-up: that's just the oil screen, not really a filter in my book. the real oil filter for your 250sx is right here if your wondering. sorry can't get pics from the manual to upload, so here's a pic of my buddies BR. it's the cover with 3 screws. make sure you put it in right, they can go in backwards.

UBER: yes for the 125 (90 and 110 too) there is a centrifugal filter. looking at my repair manual (Clymer) and basicly it's in the clutch housing. should only have to take it apart enough to get into the center of the clutch. the clutch doesn't have to come off and it only shows cleaning it. nothing about having to replace it and it doesn't even show how to replace it. just to clean it.

I stand corrected I never herd of it is it on all Honda 4 strokes have that?

Jon Boy
12-16-2011, 02:08 PM
not 100% sure, but i'm going to say just the smaller laydown motors are like this.

also the filters are supposed to be cleaned every oil change (says to wipe with a lint free cloth or scrap with a flathead screwdriver if it has heavy build-up), but hardly anyone ever does it. luckly mine was clean as a whistle when i got my 125.

Okay yea i know where the filter is, I couldnt find that screen if thats what they were talking about.

I just need some gasket paper or a single gasket then i am good to go.

In the center of the clutch pack you say? I don't need the special clutch tool to get at the center? Or unbolts a different way? I guess I never bothered to look at it when the cover was off. I like to clean everything that's possible to clean on my machines and motors. If there's one more thing I'm missing I like knowing. Thanks guys. Sorry again OP for hijacking.
