View Full Version : 1st Gen 200x Cal-Fab Value$
I'm curious as to what one of these swingers go for because I know they are pretty rare. I have a buddy that has one for a 83-85 200x and one for a 3rd gen 250r. I have been trying to work a deal to get them but I don't think he will turn loose of the 250r swinger because he has a '85, but has no use for the 200x swinger. It has been about 13 years since I laid eyes on them and at that time they were just obsolete trike parts to me.
I am also going to look at a '84 200x tomorrow so it will have a home if I get it.
Of course condition is everything but I remember them being in really good shape.

I would suspect that the 250R swinger would fetch a far greater amount than the 200x arm. Another fact is that the 85R arm is a one year design, where as a 86 up fits trx's as well. Given the fact that it's much easier to get big power from a 250R, the "+2?" arm would work well for power management. However the average 200x simply doesn't make enough power to need an extended arm. But who can argue with the cool look and wow factor of a Westcoast regardless of application. If they are damage free and have only normal routine wear, my guess is somewhere between $4-$650 on the open market. You have a big advantage considering he's a friend of yours.

^ He said Calfab, not westcoast. I think the calfabs are worth more than the westcoasts, and are built better too, and have a nice finish. Im not certain what they would be worth, but I know you dont see a lot of them compared to a lot of the other aftermarket swingarms. Good luck with the deal!

I see missed the Cal-Fab part. And yes, they do fetch a bit more money. As far as built better, that's debateable. Aluminum by nature is far weaker and much more prone to failure. There are many confirmed cases of Cal-Fab failures. Chro-mo Westcoast arms are simply more durable. It's the fact that Cal-Fab was the only aftermarket company to actually manufacture aluminum arms, and is in great part what makes them so desireable and unique. Not that they are any better than any other big name aftermarket swingarm.
Thanks fella's. Its so hard to say because they don't come up very often to judge what they bring. I am wanting to get an idea so I can make him a fair offer. He's a good friend and would probably damn near give it to me, but I won't take advantage of him. Plus if I don't want it maybe he can sell it and make a few bucks.

I just sold a Quadsport Cal-Fab for opening bid on eBay ($149.95) so its quite possible that the "Wow Factor" is reserved for trikes which as a general rule owners tend to be a bit more nostalgic, I was kind of bummed out but what it is is what it is... If I had any future intention of owning a Quadsport I would have held on to it, On the other end of the spectrum Tecate arms have always been out of my play money budget, and I've never seen a 200X Cal-Fab sell so I guess its somewhere between $150 and a grand but that's not much help is it?

The last 200x cal-fab that sold a few months ago went for 1k . And for the guy that said a 200x doesn't need a +2 swingarm I guess you've never ridden a real built up race 200x before .

^ Well, what do you want Lou, 2000$??
I'd build my own at that point.
The rareness of the part is only worth what it is to the buyer/collector; Which, can be very high.
But, pretty pictures and garage queens only go so far in my book.
This old crap has to got to go and we need to move to the future as far as parts availability as I'm sure you know......
But, hell, get what you guys can get! :beer

Really was more me saying that I really like mine and don't want to sell it. :-P Man you're a killjoy Dirtcrasher! j/k You can't blame me for wanting to get in on the thread. It's not often I get to say I have something that you just don't see very often.

That guy, said the AVERAGE 200x doesn't need an extended arm...And your right, i haven't ridden a real built up race 200x before. But, i have seen, and raced many who thought they had THAT machine. And no, i have no plans on ever building one either. But, i have built many fast Tri-z's, Tecates, and 250R's. Are you faster? Do you want to race? Are ya gonna beat me with your built up "race 200x" or something?

"Faster" depends completely on the condition. A well built 200x is the trike of choice on a tight track IMO. On the other hand a 2 stroke obviously has an advantage over the 200x on larger open tracks. Both trikes have there advantages.

 Didn't mean to get your goat but now that I've got it I believe I prob could beat you on my "race 200x" In all seriousness the + 2 swingarms were def necessary for racing applications but not needed for the average 200x for sure .
