Just got bike running. Smoking and jet info needed
So I got my 85 Tecate running today and has an aftermarket pipe and 300 jet. A lot of white smoke but the plug was new. When I took it out it was wet and black. In confused if its rich or lean because white smoke means lean and wet and black plug means rich... Any one know?! Whn I get on it it's seeming like it is hesitant to pick up an go. It's been a few years since I had an ear for a 2 stroke motor. I don't know what to do. Smaller or bigger jet? It's running on vp116 race gas 32:1

could be a vacuum leak also due to the fact i haven't put the intake boot on yet... any ideas

Mine did the same thing.. kinda. What does your oil look like? Milky?? Maybe your getting water in there and could be a head gasket or water pump bearings and seals? Dont forget that your jetting will be different now compared to summer when its 80-90 degrees so you will be wanting it a little richer also for now. How clean is your pipe also? It may have a bunch of old carbon in it that maybe burning out when its getting hot also. Im by no means a pro mechanic but figured Id chime in and give you a few things to check out.

Race gas will burn alot more cleanly than pump gas. How did you run it without an intake boot? I would get it fully assembled then try a restart. Trust the plug more than anything else. Do a heat cycle or two to make sure your jetting is ballpark and no leaks anywhere then go ride it and do a plug chop and go from there.

1st of all...Git that 116 fuel out of there! There is absolutely no reason to be running that type of fuel. In that application, it simply can't be burned effieiently and it would be impossible to ever jet properly. You would sieze your engine attempting to clean it up. Mix up some regular pump 93 and start from there, start with the basics of jetting.

Ok thanks. I got it from a guy who used to race it so I assume the 300 jet and aftermarket pipe work together. I have the old intake boot on it. New one is on the way. I'm running Mobil 10-30. I'll see if it's watery but I don't think it is. Also I think maybe I should try 93 and 32:1

I think it's just a dirty motor and pipe cleaning so it smokes. It smokes less now than before. I'll get the new intake boot an go from there. My plug is wet and black after a fresh few minute ride.

A 300 jet and aftermarket pipe have nothing to do with an engines fuel requirements. i.e."specific burn rate" Engine set up and ignition do when trying to achieve max power.

Ok so I looked both side. Exhaust and intake. Ported. I can see the port job. The kid before me says he doesn't know but he thinks it's at least .20 over bore. It has the engraving on the cylinder B+B

white plug = lean, wet/oily/black plug is rich. smoke is no indicator of leanness, if anything when running lean, you wont have any smoke. When it's rich, it will smoke white smoke heavily. you sound like you're rich to me. When a dirty pipe gets hot, it will smoke a TON, and it smells bad too.

Yea so you think I should go down to a 280 or 290? Exhaust was dirty as hell do I'm sure the smoke was cleaning and def black an wet as hell plug
