Wish I had the money...but that'd be a seriously long drive to pick it up (8 hour round trip):http://reno.craigslist.org/mcy/2764714172.html

I love those triples and would love to have that decal repro'd. I just have the plain old steel triples. Mine has the chromoly rear axle though. Looks like that frame has the 185s axle or maybe that's an atc90 axle. Hard to tell. Still a really neat machine.

Vealmonkey that's been on C/L for about two weeks down here, and every time I've looked at it I've thought of you :)

Oh, BTW I've got 2 or 3 sets of those triples but not the swiss cheese version :naughty:

Says a lot about the 3 lug hubs.
Apparently they can take quite a bit more than a 90 can put out.

Hehe I was drooling over that thing when I saw it a few days ago, thought of you too Vealmonkey.
I think the Triples are like that so you can use the RD350 Headlight ears and Headlight on it.
I was wondering how long it would be before someone mentioned it on here. lol HH

I don't know if it's that the 3 lug hubs can take so much, but even when the 81 atc250r came out, that's all that there was! LOL There are real heavy duty 3 lug hubs though. Several companies made and sold them. Durablue was one and even way back when they had the locked steel centers inside the aluminum out hub. They are really cool if you can find a set. Most of the aftermarket heavy duty 3 lug hubs were round. Even when the 1980 yt125 came out, yamaha used the 3x100 bolt pattern since there were so many aftermarket 3x100 wheels offered. The old hot rod trick was to use the stock, 1 piece 3 bolt yamaha steel wheels to replace those frustrating 2 piece honda wheels unless you went aluminum. Rick, the more I learn about you, what don't you have? LOL The best thing about that set up for sale is, it has the pipes. They are what can be hard to find. You can use other exhaust set ups, but they don't fit the frame very well and are hard pressed to look like they belong on the trike. It seems like it would be a really good deal for someone looking for something vintage and unique. I'm almost glad I don't live on the west coast, I would be broke and have to live in a small room in the corner of a large warehouse. LOL

I'm no engineering expert, but that thing looks like it was designed and built fairly well. Look at how beefy that frame is! Guess it has to be in order to with stand the vibration/power/weight of the RD350. Probably heavy too, but that would be one seriously fun toy. Rear axle looks too short for it though for sure.

Are there any pics of what this thing looks like complete? A quick google search revealed very little info on these things, I'm guessing they're fairly rare?

Veal, I'd love to see you restore the one you've got, but I guess you've got your hands full with your Nich project (not to mention all those other cool toys/projects of yours and helping other guys with their projects)...:)

The thing with the Hi Perfomance frames, is that they were a "Universal Frame". They were built a little bit bigger all around and Heavier Duty, but they used one size frame to fit several different engines. They used the same frame, but just used different engine mounts. Pretty smart actually. I can't remeber if they ever used 185s axles, but I think they would have. But remember, the atc90 had been around so long by the time these frames were made, extended, Heavy Duty atc90/110 axles were easy to come by. The rear disc, is the front rd disc on an adapter hub. The early versions of the frame had no rear suspensions at all. Imagine a h2 750 powered hardtail!!! LOL The Hi Performance atc 90/110 suspension frames were a downsized version of the frame for sale, slightly different to fit the 90/110 engine and the cylinder head mount as well. And remember, there were several places that were doing some really trick things with the r5/rd350 and rd400 engines. I do have a set of DG gold radial heads for the rd350.

that thing is a steal for $600 i can believe no one has bought it!!!! everybodys got fenders tank and wheels laying around to complete it id make it a asphalt 1/4 or 1/8 mile drag trike myself, not much sand here in iowa

Not everyone has a tank to fit it. If you notice, it doesn't have any front mounts for an atc90/110 tank. That's cause it's not meant to fit an atc90/110 tank. That frame is meant to use the mounting stuff for the rd350 tank.

That's some cool info Veal; you sure know a lot about the early days of trikedom.

Imagine a h2 750 powered hardtail!!!

Holy crap that would be nuts!

The same guy is selling a possible Hi-Performance ATC 90/110 frame in San Diego (he has ads in both Redding and San Diego, but I noticed for some reason his SD craigslist ads keep getting flagged...wonder what's up with that?):http://www.reachoo.com/ads/26874557#sandiego-Hi%20Performance%20ATC%20Aftermarket%20frame%20ATC 90%20ATC110%20ATC125%20(Redding%20)%20$300

You just had to drop that bomb on me, didn't you? LOL That's pretty fricking cool too. You should see the old pics of the big hardtail frames with a big old streetbike engine strapped in there. It would work in the big sand box. There were several places that sold hardtial frames that fit streetbike engines. It amazes me that these machines aren't more popular now. They were the shiznit back in the day. I so would have loved growing up on the west coast.

I hate to say it, but that's just mechanical porn for me. Talk about snarling little beasties! Those are the machines I dreamed about having. And as far as trips go, I drove 11-12 hours one way, to go get the Nicholson 500. Then drove back the next day! LOL

I'm still looking for one of these Trinity Cycles air cooled 250R drag bikes if anyone comes across one.. Those have always tripped my trigger for some reason...

Man I love this old school aftermarket custom trike insanity...that overbored turbocharged 6 cylinder CBX drag trike is freaking mindblowing......Awesome articles on those different RD trikes too, and those stretched out Trinity drag trikes are so dang cool looking too...thanks dcreel for posting that stuff...:beer

Dammmmmn...you boys are giving me the sickness...I've already got too many projects on my plate (my '84 250R, '93 Mach 1 Ski-doo, '97 Yamaha FZR600, and tonight I just brought home a free '82 KZ750 w/title-another c-list treasure)...but I'd still love to snag that Hi-Performance RD350...how often do you see something like that pop up for sale?

Still, I've got to try and be a little rational here...I've got too many projects, and too little time and money...I think I've got to stop looking at craigslist...it's making me

I am supposed to head down to Redding on Tuesday, but I too am trying to remain "rational" lol. I would love to have it, but it looks like a three wheeled divorce machine for me. I've got a Joker 90 and BW80 I need to finish first...................................... but damn I would love to have that primitive Banshee!!

Vealmonkey
12-23-2011, 05:43 PM
Primative Banshee. LOL All the Banshee was is just a 4 wheeled RZ350. Now get down there and buy that trike! LOL As Lou Mielke would say....."Do It!".

Oh no no no...I just bought the thing for $400, 670 Rave Rotax motor runs killer and is a beast...got some electrical issues to work out still...and waiting for the snow to drop, but I can't wait to ride it...reputed to be a very quick and fast older sled.

They are very finicky engines, mostly because of the pos primer set up. they start great cold and hot but its a craps shoot if it will start after cooling down for a little while. the trick when it's warm 1 pump on the primer hold it wide open and pull if it doesnt start after the second or third pull it won't without a fresh set of plugs. good luck with it,I vowed to never own one again

Yeah, it's weird there's no choke on these things...that's the 1st I've heard of any starting issues with 'em though, and I've done a lot of internet research...mine is a bit difficult to start when cold, but not too bad (seems to take a few pulls/primes to keep it running)...once it's warmed up it starts one pull/no throttle...I've been attributing it to the fact it sat a couple years before I bought it...I went thru and cleaned the carbs and fuel filters, but haven't touched the fuel pumps so far...what's driving me nuts is the electrical gremlins.
