My rear shock is ready for a rebuild and have heard a few guys saying that they dont last to long after a rebuild so Im wondering is there anything out there that can be used with little to no fab work. I will be hitting jumps and riding rocky trails and am hoping there is something out there instead of buying a $700 works shock, that will give me good performance and not break the bank. Thanks

What kind of fab work needs done? Have you tried this?

Banshee Shock is a direct bolt on (you need to only drill out the shock mount on the upper linkage to fit the larger mounting bolt) and they are fairly plentiful out there

I have a newer raptor shock on my t3. Mine has the reservoir mounted on the shock so it isn't a remote reservoir. You would have to remove the aorbox to run this. But there is room for a open k&n or something similar. The shock is a very comfortable shock and has a good amount of travel to boot

I was more than pleased with the 300EX shock. It feels stiff when the bike isn't in motion but it actually works great in every riding condition I've tried.

I just got done reading that thread Fabio and was wondering how that shock is holding up and did you ever swap the springs or you still running the 300ex spring?

Have you had it on a track to see how it reacts to any diecent jumps?

I never swapped the spring. Like I said, it felt stiff at first but after giving it a chance it actually rode really well.

I'm not a huge jumper like some of these guys on here, but I have the utmost confidence this shock would soak up whatever you threw at it. I bottomed out that old Kayaba more than once. I've never bottomed the EX shock and it feels smoother all around. I noticed it most in the whoops. It eats em up like candy.

I was wondering about this too.

Is there a specific year for the 300EX shock?

Thanks Fabio. I think all the shocks are the same for the 300ex Tattool but not to sure on those 4 wheeled contraptions.

One thing I would like to add (and I'll be adding this to my thread as well) is that you're probably going to want to run an adjustable dog bone. I run one from an 86 Tecate. Once the EX shock is installed, the bike will be a little lower if you use the non-adjustable dog bone. With the adjustable dog bone you can put the rear end wherever you want it. This is great for me because when it comes time for ice racing I can lower the rear of my bike with the greatest of ease.

just a fyi. i weigh close to 280lbs. im 6'6, not some short fat guy lmao...but even with me, on it with my raptor shock, and a 86 swinger, i have yet to bottom out. i take my t3 on some pretty good trails that has alot of bumps and it does just fine. and the spring isnt tightened up yet via the spring adjuster

Kawasaki. They were on the B1 and B2 Tecates. Not sure if they were on the T4 or not.

Durablue made one also. Although the odds of finding one are not very good, of course.

Search long and hard for an 86/87 or build your own with this stuff...

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/search-heim.html?page=GRID

Here is the assembly:

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/5-8-Inch-Stainless-Steel-Double-Adjuster,6844.html
5/8" DOUBLE ADJUSTER, STAINLESS @ 22.99
Standard RH Female Heim, 5/8" Shank/Hole @ 7.99
Standard LH Female Heim, 5/8" Shank/Hole @ 7.99
5/8" Steel Jam Nuts - Pack of 6 (LH) @ 3.99
5/8" Steel Jam Nuts - Pack of 6 (RH) @ 3.99

So basically you can build your own for around $46.95 + shipping (But double check the through bolt size, my memory is a bit off lately)

All 87-92 250X and all 300EX 93-2012 are the same rear shock,,as far as mounting goes. They may have played with valving over the years? But they are all the same shock. I have some if anyone needs,,but I won't Give them away like Ebay pricing!! So,,I may as well have not posted that!

Awesome post and that is a fantastic idea. The Kawi adjustable dog bones are getting harder and harder to find.

Just so people know, EX shocks are a dime a dozen. If somebody is selling them then by all means they are free to ask what they want for them, but why hang on to them if you can't get what you think they're worth? The market dictates their worth and quite honestly, there are tons and tons of EX's and 250X's out there.

The adjustable dog bones arent so hard to find. Finding a good price is harder. I should have one lying around.

Well, I was going through old threads and forgot about this one. Me and Ben swapped my blown shock for a 300X shock. Just had to drill out the top mounting bracket hole a little. The shock has good rebound but fell a little short with the jumps. I am not using an adjustable dog bone so it sits pretty low but shock still bottomed out and is up the whole way. Think this is a great shock for flat/ice track racing though! Think I will try a banshee next and see what happens.
