I have a quick question regarding an '83 200X transmission. The transmission shifts just fine in all gears but if the engine stalls like locking up the brakes without using the clutch when it is in gear the clutch lever is really hard to pull in but you find neutral be using the sifter arm and start the engine back up the clutch operates just fine. What could be causing this to happen? I am going to be taking the engine apart for several upgrades and would like to solve this problem as well. Thanks for the help again guys...

Sounds like the clutch drum is worn, and the clutch plates are hanging up in the drum.

So it sounds like I may need to replace the clutch drum. Thanks for the advice. I just got the motor pulled about 20 minutes ago. I cant wait to tear it apart....

Could the clutch springs just be sticking??? Also, is there any way to test the clutch assembly while the motor is apart??

Yeah with your cover off, pull on your clutch, and the pressure plate should come out a little bit (this is what makes your clutch plates slip). Now let go of your clutch and the pressure plate should have no hesitation returning to the basket. It could also be your clutch cable hanging up. This is all done with your bike off of course. Another thing, take your clutch plates out and inspect the basket, you could have a groove in the that the plates are hanging up on, but once you get going they break free, check your clutch adjustment also.
