I have asthma , had it all my life . I use primatene mist to control it becouse i have no health ins and am currently unemployed . anyways our Goverment in its overreaching power has banned primateen becouse it contians a small amount of CFC's !! now in order to get a inhaler I and my son must go to the docter$$$ get a perscription then pay roughly twice as much at a pharmacy.. not cheap. the over the counter inhaler was about 20$ each and worked for us for years . the pescription is 45$ plus the docter visit . I am sure we are not the only people hurt by this ban .there is little chance that the meds are creating a hole in the ozone!! anyone else affected by this ?

Sorry to hear about that man! Whomever it was that said, "Any government with enough power to give you everything you need, has enough power to take everything away".... pretty much nails it....

Is there any chance you can buy it via the internet? We have resorted to that in the UK with special anti-biotics because the stuff costs and needs a doc to write a prescription for the exact thing.
I believe cows emit more greenhouse gas than humans? And I read that termites may emit even more!

From the lable:
Contains CFC 12, 114, substances which harm public health and environment by destroying ozone in the upper atmosphere.

Check out what the Montreal Protocol in 1989 established. The ban is actually world wide not just the U.S. The inhaler removal started in 2008 and was to be completed by the end of 2010.

Individuals in my family are in the same situation. I know how you feel.

According to the Primatene Mist website, the product is coming back out CFC free.
http://www.primatene.com/doc/PrimateneMistCFCInformation-01-04-2012.pdf

They are switching to HFA. They did this to my albuterol, a few years back (at least the ones dispensed at the VA).

My experience, the HFA propellant is not as strong, makes for weaker puffs and the nozzle clogs before the canister is empty (not a good thing to happen to a "rescue inhaler"). Fixable by rinsing the plastic part in warm water though.

I've been using a mouthpiece AeroChamber with it, big difference.

I have never used Primatene Mist, I wonder if the HFA will cause the same problems with epinephrine.

I have asthma and without Albutirol (SP), I'd be dead...... Seems like the new ones they are giving me are different.

OT - It's funny, they are forcing to do all the "right" things in their minds, such as the new florescent light bulbs versus the incandescent. These new bulbs contain mercury and need to be disposed of properly; What percentage of people do you think will be just tossing them in the trash?? So what the trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro good does that do??

^^I just throw them in my neighbors lawn....he was one of the inventors. His house is LabronJames BIG and I figure has pleanty of room on the 100acher spread to keep a pile of his job well done. Sorry to go OT....Pretty soon all meds will come from Mexico and internet sales. Why??? FDA regulation or is it our ever clever EPA and the never ending persuit to send all jobs and medican offshore. I believe this is where the Goverment is trying to tax ALL products 4Xover...never considering the true results of economic based consumers who need jobs to buy the products that were originally made here in the US. Henry Ford paid his workers a higher wage....so they could afford to buy the product they produced(thats good business).

:Dso today i got a percription for abuterol and one for advare $$ i did not want to spend , but the doc was cool he said the advare helps control so you dont need the rescue inhaler as often . we'll see:wondering anyways i will still be glad when the primetine is back on the shelf. still dont see a inhaler making the ozone hole ,. ps those new lightbulbs are crap!! asthma is why I prefer muddy trails to dusty ones..

One of the "C's" in CFC is Chlorine. One Chlorine molecule has the ability to destroy 100,000 Ozone molecules. Inhalers are the last of the CFC devices, where as CFC gas used to be a common propellent in most aerosol cans and a refrigerant gas for air conditioners.

I'd have to say pollution is the culprit of any "global warming".

I read up on my inhaler, it says no CFC's and it works like crap.

Advair is a steroid and should slow down the need for a rescue inhaler but I wonder what else the steroid does.

I needed my inhaler from time to time, thats it, never a daily or weekly basis and this new one suks. Now I need 3 or 4 puffs.............

I use a corticosteroid inhaler also, the only thing that's gotten bigger is my stomach so far.

You can call Primatine Mist at 1-877-462-8363, ask them when the new stuff is supposed to come out.

I'd have to say pollution is the culprit of any "global warming".

Pollution certainly can contribute to climate change. Remember that if there is global warming there is also global cooling.

Climate change is cyclical and constantly changing. There are many factors which change the Earth's climate which among others include changes in the Earth's axial rotation (precession), continental drift of the tectonic plates and not to be left out variations in solar activity which is also cyclical.

Man made pollution is and can be dwarfed by a good sized volcanic eruption for quite some time, not to mention the increased methane production by sheep in New Zealand or organic matter anaerobic decay in the northern latitudes.

Just sayin. :D

speaking of government bans, how does banning criticizing Muslims sound? to be made a CRIME....
