View Full Version : whats you most worst trike accident?
the only real accident i had was on my 85 350x this trike belong to my farther (whos past away long time ago) this trike was in immaculate condition oem everything one day i went ridding practicing my wheelies on asphalt of course (more grip) was getting cocky and tried to see how close my grabbar would touch the asphalt. So when i down shifted to pull i under estimated how much power it had when i down shifted (was in 3 gear going down to 2) i pushed on the throttle and i lost my grip on the handle bars so when the trike when up i fell down in the process of me falling down the trike fell on top of me some how i manage to push the trike.but in the process of doing that the trike cought grip from the tires and then i started to roll i rolled about 3-4 times (my foot got cought in the peg) so i rolled with it ended up on the side of the road the trike was upside down and i was eating dirt i got up to find every piece of plastic was cracked into oblivion there was plastic every where so i was in cruches for about 2 weeks bad ankle.. not fun lol
I was I think 13 or 14 not to sure it rattled my brain lol iam 19 now and I understand how much the 350x was in value today with oem fenders I didn't now that back in the day but I guess we all learn from our mistakes

When I was 7 my mom and stepdad took their honeymoon up north to our cabin.... He wrecked the 200s and broke his back. Was night, had been drinking, had his sister riding on the back and hit some soft sand. Lots of fail there.

My first wreck was my only wreck. (so far...) It was just two weekends ago. Rolled my '84 Big Red. I did the classic "tuck & roll" and came away without a scratch. No bruises.
My last non-trike wreck was on a dirt bike. I went over the handle bars on that one. Hundreds and hundreds of acres, and I had to run into the one and only other dirt bike on the trails. My brother. He stayed on the bike - but came away with bent forks.
Wife says I am getting too old for this.

Mine was on my 250sx that I used to have. I tried to go up a steep hill, the sx just didn't have it in her. I didn't have a front brake so I slammed the rear brake (big mistake) so the trike flips over backwards but luckily I just jumped backwards and it was no big deal. Bent up my bars, broke the key, another dent for the gas tank, and another crack in the fenders. All in all it wasn't too bad-I didn't actually get hurt. Monroe Mike got the joy of witnessing it; it was within the first 10 minutes of riding.

Worst accident on a trike was on a 350x, was riding around freinds house (his 350x) and got cloths lined by a pine tree limb. I was fine, trike was fine, tree not so much haha of course i wasnt going slow, wind was knocked out of me but fine. wrost accident ever was on my fat cat, hit a soft mud puddle on a corner, and went down hard and rolled off a ditch into a rocky stream. I was banged up, but the bike was fine! Bikes before broken bones!

Worst Trike Crash: About 15 seconds into my first Tecate ride in 85, I looped it at WOT in fourth gear on a gravel road wearing corduroys and a t-shirt (still picking gravel out of my ass)
Worst Quad Crash: Full speed endo on a Quadsport when I was flying across a cornfield and my front wheels dropped into an irrigation ditch (broken ankle)
Worst Dirt Bike: (RM 250)Over corrected a bad cross rut and ended up landing ass first (still have a pretty good limp on damp days)
Worst Street Bike: (85 Yamaha 700X Maxim) Ran off the road by an idiot and lost it in the median, I escaped with a serious grass stain but the bike ended up bouncing off a couple trees (speedometer needle was crushed at 60 and the trees were about 100 yards from where I left the pavement)
Worst Motor vehicle: 86 Toyota pickup end over end
Most embarrassing: (75 Sportster) Hitting an oil patch and sliding through the intersection in front of the police station in Wellsboro, PA
And many honorable mentions:D

my worst trike wreck that I remember,I was blazing through a woods trail as fast as my ole yt175 would go and hit a small tree with the right handlebar.I got shot off of coarse but the trike being the faithful machine it always was, decided to follow me or jump on top of me. I rode home steering with my left hand with what was left of the right side in my hand. not my worst crash but probably worst on a trike

Sue the Ice. Then sue yourself. Someone know a good lawyer ?
My worst accident. 1986 Honda 250 SX scaling rocks up steep goat path. Rear tires spider tracs were wet. Gained traction as rear tires spinning dry on rocks and could not get the front end down. Threw the SX off of me and she bounced like a beach ball down rock cliff about 200 feet. Not one scratch to me or the trike. Headlight guard took the hardest blow and saved the bike. 2nd accident. 1986 Honda 350X. Moto X guy on a kawi getting way too close to me getting me pissed off he got behind me too close. His foot peg caught the tread on my rear tire which sent his bike flying about 10 feet straight up like he was shot out of a canon. No damage to the ATC Moto X guy was face down in the dirt. Asked if he was ok then told him to back the F off.

I was:crazy:"steep": hill climbing with auto-x, flipped over backward hit a tree with back of my head ,trike then hits me in the front of head ,cracked buttface helmet ,cuncusion ,sticthes in forehead ,brain trauma ,.learned a lesson about cheap yardsale helmets, 1500$ hospital bill , no real damage to the trike, still have that auto-x 9yrs later:D:cool:

I was climbing a hill on my 250sx and got sideways. Somehow, either I put my foot down, or it slipped off the peg onto the ground, but the bike continued it's forward progress rolling over my foot and leg pulling me off the bike. This resulted in a severely sprained ankle(I think I tore something in there, but never had it looked at), torn jeans, and bruised pride. The trike sustained no damage.
Another time I was loading my 250sx into the back of my lifted truck. My makeshift ramps made for a steep angle and I gave it a little too much gas causing the bike to flip backwards. I landed on my back with the SX on top of me, but was somehow able to keep it from crushing me. I walked away a little sore, but otherwise unscathed. The trike was undamaged.

Fell down a 70 foot cliff. Saw the edge, tried to avoid, couldn't, tried to ride straight down made it 1/2 way down hit some rocks, flipped tumbled hit my head. Thank you gear, never without.
Even though i only have foot rear brakes, brand new perfect hand brakes would have done nothing, cliff was too steep and too filled with 2 foot rocks.

The worst I had was this summer..350X bucked me off going over a large mound at a gravel pit...same one I've climbed 1000 times...all I remember was going up the one side then laying on my back with all my buddies around me..knocked me out cold...goggles blew up..cut my face under my left eye...7 stitches..bent both forks...blew the front tire off the bead...landed back on all 3... cracked my helmet. Glad I had it on, or I'd be dead or paralyzed. Not real sure how or what happened. There is a vid from the guy following me, but I can't find it..

My worst accident was this summer on my 350x. I was cruising newtonville trails alone( i know, stupid ). Was going about 70-80 on a nice smooth trail about 45 minutes from the truck.
All of a sudden, BOOM!, front tire fell through 2 inches of dirt and revealed a washout underneath the trail, went flying over the handlebars, x flipped about....
8 times ( my guess ). I was thrown over 15 feet, and so was the bike. It was ontop of me when we stopped...
Surprisingly, i was fine, not even a scratch. The 350x took some damage to the headlight and front fender, but that was it!
My frame is still good and straight, as well as my forks.

i never flipped yet (knock on wood) but my dad was driving our 125 last winter and are drive way was pure ice. so we were drifting on it and what not but on one corner we push our snow off the driveway and make a pile there. The yamaha decides its not going to turn for that corner AND also stick the throttle wide open. so he ends up hitting the snowpile sideways and the 125 ends up on top of him. broke a rib/ but noting on the wheeler.

My worst was in about 1988 I was 13 riding my 110 honda full throttle across a field hit a rock stick up mabey 2 inches and rolled several times. I was lucky one of the few times I wore a helmet (I was 13 and it was impossible to get hurt) and it was muddy but mad that hurt. I had that 110 for 6 months and wiped out, got hurt more on that thing than my 200s and 250R I had when I was a teenager over a couple years.

A pretty tame accident to your standards but still a classic trike accident: One summer I was climbing hills on my klt250. The hills were clay-like and filled with tree roots and 4-wheeler ruts(high center). Close to the top of the hill, the massive trailpros on the rear got wedged into the ruts sending the front end up and bucking me off before I could grab the clutch. Like always the trike ended up on top of me and it was still running. This was good news to me since my battery was shot and the trike has no back up start. I flipped the trike back over on her tires but I stalled it. Then without thinking I tried to popstart it on this hill but I made my own path through the bushes and hit a large rock just as soon as the machine fired up. I flipped again. Severe trauma to my pride was the only injury. Trike is fine.

When I was about 13, I had a 110, I live on a dead end street with a canal at the end. I went flying down to the end at full speed and the hi/low transmission shifter popped out(now in neutral) And being 13 yrs old,,, no brakes.
Went flying off into the canal,, the last thing I remembered was my front tire connecting with far side water line.
I did have my helmet on.
I got knocked out,, I woke up 1/2 in the water, and the 110 was upside down floating down the canal.
Years later,, me and friends started going to Croom,, alot of crashes there, we like to climb vert,
Handlebars through the helmet, with broken nose
Badly cut hand.
Then in my nieghborhood years later
A minor crash,, took out my ACL in my knee.
A new construction site had a fresh pile of soft white sand,, I hit it and mushed over to to the left side and the 350x gently rolled over me and it sounded like my leg broke,, but it was my ACL tearing.
I still love my 350Xs

I recently gave one of my trikes (185S) to a gentlemen that takes care of my ranch. I tried teaching him for a day until he finally got the hang of it. so a week past, i when i went back he was doing just fine, that night we pounded on brews & the dude couldn't hold his drink, stepped out without saying a word jammed at night on the trike to go buy some brews & on the way back wearing no helmet and holding a 12pk coming back, took a turn hit a ditch & went flying over the trike landing face first scraping one side of his face on the gravel & knarling his knee pretty bad in the process. The next morning I saw him I made sure he was ok first then proceeded to scold the krap out him for being so stupid.... I think he learned his lesson. 9 broken bottles, he came back with 3..

Sorry, but I'm not sure I understand the point to this thread!! Sounds like kindergarten show and tell!!
For me a good ride is one that I had fun on and don't have any near-miss stories to tell after..maybe thats just me though!
Happy to say at 44, no major spills or injuries. Just a couple bumps and scrapes..most of the time after one of these minor and rare events I get up, dust myself off, look around to make sure no one saw me pull a FAIL and get back on and ride away.
Reading some of these stories is showing the sobering facts as to the number of people who ride beyond their skill level!! Scary!!!!!
Sadly we will probably look back at this thread in years to come and see the comments of a couple riders who aren't with us anymore..
Sincerly, I hope some of you guys grow-up before you are toes-up!!!
The ones who don't see my genuine concern and are angered by these comments are probably the ones who need to first...

doug spcs i see your point but i agree and disagree, yes there are some idiots who ride beyond thir skill level , and others there are un forseen circumstances, like a block of styrofoam under the snow or a stuck throttle slide. but i am verry aware of my skill level but things still happen too. whats important that were all still here today after our (mishaps) and are here to tell about them.

Atc-Eric had just put a twist throttle on his modd'd warrior and I was riding it for the first time ( I HATE TWIST THROTTLES ON anything but dirtbikes). I came down a hill at a local place we ride and hit some ruts along the lake that were full of water, I hydroplaned and the bike went sideways. I ended up 90 degree turning and doing a power wheely into a lake off a 20 foot drop on the quad. I went swiming with the quad lol, heres a pic after we drug it out of the lake http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/sleepin-mr2/caca-1.jpg
I broke my shoulder at Trikefest 2009 the first night there like an idiot riding in the dark when I shouldnt have been on a bike. I broke my shoulder and stretched the nerve trunk, I should have broke my kneck.

Not trophies but reminders to be safe.Thats how I am seeing it...
My only accident was on my big red trying to turn to fast in mud.My front tire had no traction and I slide into a tree but thankfully I was only going 25mph.
I learned trying to turn sharp in the mud on a 3 wheeler is not a good idea cause the front tire will not catch even when turned fully.

Live and learn, we all make mistakes. Some of us live a little more reckless than the rest; I realize I have done some dumb stuff. Its just who I am. If I die young while enjoying myself than I will have died enjoying my life. If i die an old man than I will have just spent alot more time doing the things I love :D honestly Im not promoting stupid mistakes, just showing mine as an example of what not to do.

doug your right getting hurt is not cool and no one should look at it like that. not all these injuries go away either, chances are your going to feel it down the road. but not everybody is satisfied bogging around on a 200s either. live and learn and try not to do anything stupid and always know your track or trail before you get wicked with it.
what ended up to be my worst crash was looping out my 250 and landing on my knee. nothing to exciting but my knee had to get drained and then i crashed on same knee about 2 weeks after (lost it in a high speed turn) my knee swoll up so big i couldn't even bend it, i was 17, and thats when reality set in with me,, i ended up with a staff infection, it was really nasty horrible experience.
another time was in attica indiana. ripped up what looked like a hill climb that had been done before. ended up being about a 10' or so cliff off the other side. flew over buried it in the sand below, got the wind knocked outta me, some bruises, got lucky, thats what i mean about know your trail :(
if you plan on ripping, gear up, whats with people wearing shorts and gym shoes

My 250SX got me good. I had no helmet on and sandals and hit a washout that the rain brought about, I should have known far better.
I deserved the crash and the end result. I did not check the trail 1st, I was cocky and I didn't wear my gear. A heavy SX tumbling over you can be painful!

Worst accident i had on a trike was on a atc 110 i had saved from the crusher. I was doing donuts in gravel on it and my foot slipped and hit the gear shift lever and shifted into 2nd.The bike gained traction then and flipped diagonally and the tank landed on my head.I caught myself with my elbow and had gravel stuck in my arm.It hurt but not bad enough to keep me from riding.I tended to my wounds and sat there for about half an hour before getting back on.Three years after that i got my 200x and rolled it end over end climbing a bank in a canal but sustained zero injuries and the bike landed on its wheels still running and unscratched other than a broke head light lens.My worst injury of all came from a trail 110 I went over the bars and hit head first into a rock and sustained a wicked concusion and ripped my shoulder cuff.

My most interesting wreck was: while riding my 350x (sold long time ago) inadvertently doing a wheelie up a small incline and at the top of the incline was concrete curb for a new subdivision. The grab bar caught the curb, threw me off, and stood the 350x straight upright. When I hit the ground I started rolling away cause I thought it was coming back on me. No, it just stood there straight up...
I read these and all I gota say is ouch lol

I was about 15, on my grandpa's YTM 200E, riding with my cousins through the woods, I had my 5 year old cousin on the trike with me, he was sitting in front. neither of us were wearing helmets.....really stupid. i wasnt going super fast, but trying to keep up with my other cousins. the rear left wheel hit a tree stump and the trike flipped. we went flying off the seat and clear of the trike. i grabbed him and reverted to the fetal position. I took the brunt of the hit to the ground. miraculously, neither of us had a scratch. I think it bent the handlebars, but other than that, the trike was fine.

Worst trike crash had to be about a year ago out at the sand dunes here in Utah. There's a huge step down out there that I usually jump on a bike but for some reason I thought I needed it done on a trike. So up I went did a few speed checks with a buddy of mine, coast was clear measured it (about 117ft) and everything the only crappy thing is I didn't have the go pro this day... Came up about a half a foot short and the landing was way steep. I almost got away but when it bottomed out the tire grabbed my boot sucked me underneath bashing my face on the handlebars then on the foot peg and having my opposite armpit go through the foot peg. The helmet broke at the chin part throwing the plastic through my lip and part of my nose so ended up in the emergency room for about 6 1/2 hours getting plastic surgery and had a few stitches in my arm. The trike ended up not harmed at all. Crazy day out on the 250r

Over this last summer I was ripping my buddies 85 350x through a field chasing my other buddy. I got lost in the dust and put the one rear tire into a 2 to 3 ft deep tractor rut. It sucked the bike into the rut and then did a severely hard sideways endo. I bent the forks, handle bars and the rear axle. Surprisingly nothing happen to the clean oem fenders(thank god). Within a few days I had replacement parts for what I messed up. My bruises didnt go away for atleast 2 weeks.

my worst crash was when i was about 7. i was on my yamaha zinger gojng aroung a turn when the entire front wheel came oof. i flew about 10 feet ahead. and almost lost the 3 wheeler and tire to a pond. some 4 wheeler was passing by and gave a pair of locking pliers too clamp the front wheel back on. the forks caught reall hard. the three wheeler flipped a few times with no damage thankfully. on the other had i was pretty beat up.
