1983 200e

[85 Jimmy]

Just picked up an 83 200E today. The guy had it advertised as an 85 200R, which I knew didn't make since. After I got it I ran the frame ID and found out what it really was. BUT, he says that the reverse worked good, after doing research I've found that they didn't make a 200E with reverse, just an aftermarket kit. So I'm going to pop the sub transmissions cover tomorrow and see what's going on. It needs a new plug wire, so I can't run it right know.
Is the shift pattern like the 110's, down to go up in gear?

This is pretty much a useless post, but I need to get my post count higher than 10 then wait 2 months for the for sale section.

Yea, they shift like a 110, down for up shifting. Let us know about this reverse, i have an 83 big red (200e = big red) as well and reverse would be most awesome. Welcome to the site as well!

thats interesting. i have a 84 200m, but the handlebars have a reverse indicator light. i originally thought i had a 200es. now i know i have an M, but i am unsure if it has reverse. we shall see.

redsox, is it chain or shaft? biggest difference. 200m = chain, 200es = shaft with dual range. it could be a key from a 200es as well

maybe you have a different switchbox or something because my 84 200m is stock and has no reverse light, it would come in handy though

it is chain driven. i have no doubt that it is a 200m. i am positive, i checked the numbers. it does have the reverse light on the bars though. the wiring was a nightmare, so i have no idea whats what. i got a new harness for it, and it sits now in 10,000 pieces. we'll see what we get. interesting reading JIMMY 85 that there was a reverse kit. i will know by next weekend.
