84 250r Head Light Question

hi! i had a question about the front head light for an 84 honda 250r. my bud said that he put in a halogen light, but its not very bright. its hard to go for night rides. the light it projects is a yellowish light ... it projects a small rectangular shape ... not very efficient. anyone know any cures to this?
