View Full Version : wierd smoking issue on 185

ok so before i cleaned my carb on my auto x it didnt smoke on startup at all. after i found out the pilot jet was clogged solid i cleaned the rest of the carb and put it on. ever since then every start up it smokes like a 2 stroke. but the only thing i touched was the carb. WHY??? lol

yea but it never smoked before and now only when its just running when its cold start.

does your spark plug look all fouled up ?wet black ?

it used to be but after i cleaned that jet its runnning at a dark brown. i used to foul plugs often

Make sure you have gently seated the pilot screw. Make sure you have the right amount of turns out. Check the service manual. I think it might be 2 1/4 turns out ? Don't start adjusting
that carb until its warmed up. Idle slightly high to keep it running. I would also make sure the needle is seated right. I have had some very strange things happen with this gasoline recently.
Use walmart carb fuel injector cleaner in gas or use startron starbrite fuel conditioner. Gas goes stale and does weird stuff. Make sure you are not overfilled with oil. I would break down the carb again and seat that pilot screw. Count how many turns out. If after all that fails then you can do what I do..... go nuts !!

gently seat the pilot screw? the pilot jet in mine is a pushed jet you just push it in. and the adjustments im guessing are the air screw right? oil is in middle of add and full. the air or mixture screw is at 1 and 3/4 turn
