i am moving form Ft. Worth, Texas to Temecula, California. I am not really that intereste din doing dune riding as it just does not look interesting. it looks "meh" to me. I am trying to find some good trail/woods style riding spots in the area. or at least some guys to meet up and go riding with.
Thanks,
Mike

LOL, yeah its really a yawn-fest riding a 300 foot bowl pinned in 6th gear followed by another 300 foot bowl followed by another 300 foot bowl........
Enjoy California, do a search on off road parks, there is lots of diversity for riding.

I've never met anyone that thinks our dunes out here in so cal are boring. You really need to try them.
Anyhow, There is alot of riding areas here but not many in the "woods". Anything that has trees on it in California is most likely closed to anything that isn't street legal. There is alot of "weekend" places to chose from within a few hours of Temecula---- Superstition, Ocotillo wells, GLAMIS, Pismo, Johnson valley, Stodard wells, Dumont and my favorite--Rasor road, as well as a fair amount of small areas right around Temecula, but you might get herassed there. Just remember that California has a butt load lame ass laws, especially when it comes to off road stuff.

mr. clean, i don't ride for trying to get max speed. I ride for the enjoyment and ruged challanges, so 2 completely different types of riding. that is why dun riding doesn't look too exciting. i will try it and may ride some, but it definatly is probebly not gonna be my favorate.
hey bob,
thanks for the info. i'll definatly check those places out. My son is already buggin my about places to ride out here. I'll tell ya what, we are headed home in 3 weeks to mvoe the family out here. but when I get home, I'll take photos of the riding area we go to and you guys can see what I mean. in a 6.5 acre area, we have 3 creeks, and everything from steep extreme hills to smooth flats to tight technicial turns all in the woods, so it's gonna be tuff yes to replace that, but I have faith there has to me someplace for us to ride.

Riding out here is for sure going to be different for you, but the culture shock from Texas to So. Cal. may be even worse. But Temecula is one of the nicer places around here. Alot of the Freestyle motorcross guys live there for some reason.

Fair enough Oscar, I do not live in Cali so not to familiar with the area you are moving. Bob provided a very nice list of places to ride and most are sand, desert rock type riding. Give the dunes a try, contrary to my post it is not all day pinned 6th gear in huge bowls, there is actually desert trails, and a variety of different types of riding in and around the dunes but the main attraction is the dunes and large bowls. I equate it to riding a roller coaster that you control, pick a line any line and go have fun!! If you make it to the dunes then Please post a ride thread as I know there is a couple of us who would be happy to join you and show you the dunes!!

Oh, don't be too quick to judge something you haven't tried. Riding the dunes seems boring from afar...
What doesn't seem boring about riding what is essentially the same hill over and over again- just spread out... There's actually a lot that goes on in the dunes, beyond what can be seen from the highways. Yes, it's fun to ride a 300 foot bowl pinned in 6th gear throwing a 100 foot roost, but there's just so much more to the dunes that it's somewhat hard to explain. Yes, there are trails as well. Some places also have LOTS of areas to explore as well, so it's not just carving up sand all day long. Half the fun is back at the campsite where you and your buddies do stupidly fun stuff and just not care what others think, most of which happens on the small toys :D:crazy::cool::naughty:
Aside from that, there's lots of riding areas throughout California that are just dirt and rocks. You have to look them up, there's websites out there for them that state what is open, what is closed, what machine requirements are, tags, flags, etc. I can guarantee that you will need a helmet to ride around here. Rangers will jump at the chance they get to ticket you heavily, or possibly confiscate the bike if they are in the mood. Best thing to do is play by their rules and let them be...

ok i'll keep an open mid about dunes. :) yea i always ride with gear. the only tie i ride with half gear i nearly got killed when my red did an endo into my chest trying to climb out of a creek at christmas eve 2010. doc can't figure out how i did not get hurt worse (due to being completely crushed by a atv and only having broken ribs and brused internals including the sack that surrounds your heart, but nothing punctured). i just think it as angels is all. I use a helmet, chest plate, gloves, boots, and will be getting pants, and shirts to use as well. So i'll be good to go. :)
BTW, i got the 350x!!!! i put a holding deposit on it and they will hold it till i get back. the origional owers are the oens i got it from and they even have the title and manuals! onc ei get back from movig out here and get it into my own garae, I'll take some photos and post up. but it's exciting! $650 is what i paid for it.

Hey Oscar! Welcome to Cali! Land of the... taxed and regulated.
Temecula, besides being home to Miley Cyrus, is close to a place I like to go for desert riding called Dove Springs. In fact, I'm going in two weeks. It's got riding as far as the eye can see, and farther. Additionally, it's home to Jawbone Canyon and the Jawbone Store, known for its convenience, bar, and central location. Nearby, we ride to Randsburg for lunch. Sort of an old west place in the middle of nowhere, you go and park (literally) where they used to tie up horses, go in the bar for a beer and a burger, and off you go again! Lots of interesting things to see! Look up Burrel-Schmidt mine.

The Borax mines at Randsburg are awesome.. As is the tunnel through the mountain for the miners that some guy dug.. By the time he was done the mining had pretty well dried up. Definitely a great place to go riding.

That's the Burrel-Schmidt mine. He dug through a mountain, one side to the other, by himself. Took over 30 years. Can walk through with a flashlight and still see the bracings and tracks used for mining. Crazy.

I've been through it. I've got pics around here somewhere.. The crazy part was the train at the bottom the borax mine..

There is actually a ton of Legal woods riding in California, Just not that much in so cal because its not forest down there. Basically anything north of Tehachapi, CA and Gorman has some sort of trail riding in an hours drive.

looks like fun guys!!! I have not had time to do a lot yet, but I need to first repalce the forks again on my 200x. seels liek every pair i get wears out in like 1-2 rides. I'm not riding it very hard either :/. I also picked up a 350x that needs the carb and tank de-varnished and then attempted from there. Got it from origional owner! i even get the title!!!! out here in cali!!!!
we need to look at meeting up sometime guys! my personal email is oscar@mayer.net
send me your cotnact info and i'll put together a call list so then we can keep in touch and look to making maybe what? monthly meetings? I'm new to the area, so I'll need help on where to go for sure.

XPRESS has a good insite to it..... I live in murrieta(next door to Temecula).... My favorite places are Ocotillo Wells (60,000 acres in the park surrounded by BLM land) and Glamis....... There are many other places here in So Cal.... You will be able to find any kind of riding you are looking for and usually within a couple hours of where you live.....
