300es bigred project.

Ok so for about 2 weeks Ive been in the process of getting a 300es big red up and running, got the engine wrong wiring harness bunch of wrong parts, Finally got the right wiring harness today , new swing arm bearing, front axle bearings, Now im in the process of putting it all together, I changed the output shaft, got everything set up right, then i take the valve cover off the head to check out condition of the cam,chain and rocker arms and come across this,

So thank god I have a few extra 250es/sx engines in the shed, Plus the extra one the guy that i bought the bigred from which is the head i had to switch to the 300 to,Now i got the engine in the frame, got the new swing arm bearings installed, greased up and tightened up, And now im working on the wiring harness, getting all the lights connected and working.
I also ordered a front rack from ebay in very good condition for 43 bucks shipped so im happy about that, but now i need a front fender and a seat , the seat the bike came with feels like sitting on a cement block lol.

This is the engine that came in the big red which im gonna swap it to my dads other 250sx that has the stripped drain plug and leaks all over the place.

I also ordered new rear axle bearings, And im gonna replace the rear diff bearings on mine and my dads big reds.

hehe, the main problem im trying to work out right now is the wiring i dont know if its the CDI box ( Hope not ), or the coil im not getting spark at all nor am i getting power to the headlights or tail lights, but im getting power to the dc outlet in the front.

are you getting a nuetral light?every one i have ever delt with that has sat up, the switch under the right foot peg needs to be cleaned.that switch is the ground for the ign system.

looks great so far, I dont know much about the 300 motors. What did that engine come out of and is it a direct swap into the frame/ontop of the bottom 250es end? interested in that 300 motor for when the gf's 250sx needs something bigger :)

Gimme a few days see if i end up getting this front fender from a member on here and ill see about getting the cash for the seat.





I would question why the cam and journals got tore up.It wasn't getting a good oil supply to the head for some reason.The project is lookin good though.
I have no idea what happened there, seems like they were running it low on oil but i took the head off and the piston looks VERY good.

The engine came from a 88-2000 honda 300 2x4, it is a direct bolt in the only thing u have to do is swap the output shaft out for the 250sx/es one, its not a hard swap it only takes me about an hour to do the swap.

ok so ive been trying all day long to get spark out of it, ive checked the nuetral light it works fine the engine turns over but just aint getting any spark out, i put it in first gear and it wont turn over i also have a light hooked up to the neutral light and that works when i put it in first it turns off,Now the problem that im now the problem that im having is that i aint getting no spark nor am i getting power to the headlights, so i dont know if its the cdi box or what, Ive been trying to get onto the highlifter forums to talk to the guy that did the swap on his BR and blew the engine to see if he wants to sell me his entire wiring harness, But the highlifter forums arent working now for some reason, If anybody has a full wiring harness including cdi box alarm box volt rec light switch and ignition and wants to sell it let me know.

wow thats interesting, Im suprised this is the first I have seen anything about people swapping the 300 motors into our bikes. Thats a great swap though, bolt in using just the sx/br shaft!

I havnt taken any new pics becuz ive spent all day long working on the wiring itself i went at it for about 4 hours then a friend of mine went at it for about another 3 hours we couldnt get spark to it nor could we get power to the headlights, but oddly the dash neutral light has power we didnt get to try the oil or reverse light :( , So now im thinking of swapping out the flywheel from one of my 250s and putting the side cover if it fits on the 300 block, if they both work im gonna try the wiring harness that im 100% sure that works from my other 250sx.
