Just in case marauding elephants invade my subdivision I am protected.
Mcmillan BMG. 36” stainless barrel 1.7” dia. Weight without scope is around 48 lbs. This is prior owners setup, atm am also planning on a nightforce scope. His best group was under an inch at 600 yards. (3 shot) Seems a bit farfetched but he did have his own custom 800 grain solids turned, so I will try and duplicate. Pricy at about 90 bucks per 25 projectiles. This is before brass/powder and primer. Should be fun tho. The current world record is just under 2” at 1000 yards, 5 shot.

Blasting away at stuff is not my thing and I like precision so a blunderbuss isn’t really my cup of tea.What made this one cool, the owner made some custom slugs and shot them out to 50 yards for fun. 6” groups at 50 isn’t too shabby for this.

the best part, he adapted a grenade launch sight to it for those high angle shots, good for storming the castle! If that gets boring then eight 33 caliber balls will make for some fun, probably will wreck my target stands along with the target

ya, still weighs in much less than my 'big' gun. That one shoots a lead projectile that weights in at 1785 grains or so. 1/4 of a pound. Recoil is not for the faint of heart

Well, I guess the next step for you is one of these:
The first 3 rifles made weighed in at 50 pounds, after that they upped it to 110 pounds to ease the recoil
2500 gr. bullet, 40.00 per round.

ya, my big rifle weighs in at around 75 lbs. I am working on adapting a recoil sled that should make things more comfortable. While I do like the big callibers, well and the small calibers and the medium calibers (I have a problem), I don't like recoil all that much. I do look for ways to mitigate it. Rifle weight is a good way along with compensators etc. I also reload so I can search for the correct load. As far as that jdj, I would not want to go though all the trouble of getting an exemption from the ATF for that one (based on caliber size.) I also want accuracy. That is what I care about (minus the blunderbuss I guess!) Looking at their round I can't imagine the ballistic coefficient is all that great. Looks sorta short and fat. Shoot it out to 1500 yards or so and let me see what it will do. If it will beat my 338 lapua or this 50 then, sure! I do like their rifle rest. Thx for the link

I was being more sarcastic than anything. ;) I have the same problem you do (shhhhh!). Biggest caliber I have is a Pre 1964 Winchester .300 WinMag I inherited from my grandfather. If I'm going to shoot it has to be fun. Something like that JDJ would be more of a novelty and I'm not sure how much they cost, but at 40 bucks a round, no thanks.

your secret is safe with me! I want a 300 someday. I may have posted it here before, not sure. It is a 69 caliber, 350 grains of blackpowder or so, 1785gr projectile. The slug is made in 2 parts, the nose is lead/tin so it doesnt deform when loading from muzzle and the rear is just lead so it obturates when the powder ignites.

Nice McBros rifle, you an FCSA member? I too shoot fifty cal and it sure is a ball of fun, shot two matches out in Nebraska at 1000 and plan on going back for the fall match this year. The first year I ran 750 A-max's and the second year i ran 800 Lapuas. Ended up in second place the first year in hunter class. Good times shooting .50 cal rifles. I'm excited for this years competition season, got a new Sako TRG-22 in .260rem to play with.

just got the rifle, scope and press, saving my pennies so it will be some time until i can run with this one. not a member but have been to the site. Looks like the record is just under 2" at 1000. Pretty cool. It seems this one is a shooter and would love to strech it out. No place around me to run that distance. May give it a try in PA at the 1000 range there. The bullets that were designed by the builder of this rifle are from Cutting Edge. I emailed them and got this info

From what was said, the 800's are great, the hollowpoints opened up after a bit. He did shoot a deer at about 900 yards with one. Not sure of which I will get of the smaller 700's. price is 25 rounds per box. These are boreriders. I may also give the amax a try with the h50bmg powder that I dont have to preheat the rounds prior to firing. I say 'may' as the prior owner got much better results with a solid projectile. thx for the info

The first year I shot H50 and it worked great, the second year I shot at 1000 I shot 800 gr pills and Vit. 20N29 powder. Not a fan of the 20N29 you have to heat it to get the consistency, more work than it's worth. I tried the 20N29 because I too have a 36" barrel and the thought was the slower powder would be better. It's just easier with H50 and A-Max's The FCSA has a good members forum with tons of info and helpful members.
