First off, where the hell did my "Finally got the Z running" thread go? It seems like everytime the site goes down, we are missing threads etc. I am not blaming anyone at all, just curious as to why. Anyways, as some of you know I have been working on my Z and got it running. It smoked more that what it should with a new topend, but I was told the mix and 2 stroke oil needed changed as well as a couple other reasons. I have finally started to get some parts in like new filter and handle bars. I did some work on it yesterday, but still has a little bit to go before riding. On a side note....can anyone get me pics of the 2 different Z throttle assembys? I have one which was on my Z, but is broken. I then ordered one from a member, but they look alot different. Basically need to know if the new one is correct or what.

Well I have heard that they are different because one has threads and one doesnt. The broken one I have has threads, but broken and the newer one does not have threads. I am needing to know which one is stock and if the non tureaded one will work. Id a like pic if at all possible.

Ok, after finally finding a decent throttle pic, I have came to a conclusion. The one with threads and is broken that came with my 85 1/2 Z is the threaded 86 Z throttle and the other one which is non threaded is the 85 & 85 1/2 throttle. Well its either buy the correct throttle cable for the non threaded assembly or continue using the Honda assembly which seems to work fine. Ill prob order the correct cable.

You will regret it. Its actually two cables and a center leverage connector, and it will not not work as well as any thottle with a single cable threaded into it, which is why Yamaha got rid of it for the 86 model. If you do order one, make sure you order all three parts. I think one of the cable pieces is discontinued also, but maybe somebody has one around since most people get rid of the two piece setup ASAP.

Well if its that much of a pain, then I will just use the Honda assembly until I can find another 86 assembly and just toss the non threaded one in a box.

Tyler 54 and tri z ripper, I am just gonna use the 200x assembly that I have hooked up now until I can find the 86 z assembly with threads. It sounds like the non threaded is a pain in the butt. Thanks anyways for offering.

The 85 and 86 throttle boxes are much different. The 86 is a much improved and smoother operating design. And yes, the 85 "split" cable is garbage.

badass350x, I have an 86 cable. I believe it is anyways. It came with the Z and the broken assembly. The throttle assembly is what I need, mine is borken.

I always used the 86 z cable and a banshee thumb throttle. Plug and play as long as you have the stock carb.

Like I said, I will probably use the 200x assembly as long as it works fine while riding. I would like to use a Yammie one though. Besides the banshee one, any others interchangable?
