the axle lock nut was a cock to get off! is that the normal amount of exposed spline for the locknut?? doesnt seem like much, but everything seems to be stock, and tight!!

a few more pics!! the 86 in the backround(first pic) has already been torn down and boxed up, looked rougher, but came apart alot easier! go figure! i am gonna keep the motors out, and slowly get them cleaned and freshened up! 86 was on the stock bore, havnt pulled the top end on the 85 yet! both have broken bosses for the case saver, but the clutch actuator arms are unscathed!!

The hard part is over Rory.lol I thought we had it bad around here with rust. You are damn lucky that all you had was one broken bolt. I've had to cut axle nuts off, what a jack-off design.
I can't wait to see this once it starts to take shape.

Been working on these Northeast machines all my life. Although,,most of mine down here had mud and cow manure instead of plain mud. Real treats! What's all the wet spots on the threads of that machine Rory ? !! lol,,,Yes,that axle is correct. The way they are. Obviously,WD and PB are hopeless on these. Best stuff I ever ran across was called Rust Bomb. Blue and white can. It had catalyst in it like I have NEVER seen. It ate rust,,uphill, anywhere. Real life saver. It's made by Conklin. I had a customer who gave it to me,he was a rep. I've been too lazy to get some more! It just came to me as I was typing this who made it!!!! That and heat will get you the rest of the way apart. All the fun stuff is about to start ,like Bryan said. Is the BW next ,lol.

i think the brake hub and axle will come out fine, i am gonna try and press out the swinger bolt, if not its getting cut!! I have so many different cans of penetrant its hard to buy more, but i will check into that 007!! i used sea foam deep creep on this one, its just what was in front on the shelf! worked pretty good considering the rust!! lots of heat on the axle nut, and one of the hub nuts!! i literally thought i was gonna bust my 1/2" breaker bar on that hub nut!! 007 that BW is a rust bomb for sure, not touching that for awhile yet, doesnt take up the space as the trikes, so its not really in my way. still trying to score a foot pedal and torch for the welder i picked up a month or so ago so i can fix up the frames. fools also used the tapered lugs on the after market wheels, the one side is egged out good, and chwed up, gonna have the holes welded up, and re drill em! some of the rubber elect component holder are hard as rock and will have to be replaced!

Yeah that rust does not look like fun. You get bikes that look like that from time to time around here from deep water crossings at the dunes then put away wet. I went to NY on a random vacation about 6 years ago (Saratoga Springs and NYC) and it was interesting but I couldnt wait to get home. No highway tolls and $10.50 to register your ATV for two years. I love Oregon! You need to head west bro!

The trike scene isn't any cheaper upstate either, I feel your pain. I've been looking for a decent 200x for quite some time.

let me guess, you hit the track for some horse racing!! saratoga is 40 mins north of me!! west i will be heading!! my wife is not opposed, my job, and the housing market are kinda keeping me here! i cant give up my position at work, too nice of a gig for my feild, and i'd loose my arse if i tried to sell in these times, not willing to do that!! plus the schools are great here, and my oldest is about to start kindergarden in sept!! things do swing on a dime though!! when i moved to NY in 94 with my family, we almost ended up in the state of washington!! oh how i wish we did!! but then i never would have met my beautiful wife, and had such wonderful kids!!

Nope, no horsey racing for me lol. I was in a band and my singer had a friend (also musician) that had moved there from Oregon. He offered a place to stay (huge house- $14,000 a month rent during track season:crazy:) and we wrote music in his studio for a week or so. I knew absolutely nothing about Saratoga when I stepped on the plane, nothing (pretty neat town!). There are definately some stories from that trip, I wasnt married at the time and it was my birthday :beer Sounds like you got it good with your family/work, no worries, Oregon will always be here when you are ready!

I wouldn't be surprised if you have to cut that swinger bolt. Save yourself and $40 and order one for a trx450r. same exact bolt, different part number.

well she is all torn down. axle and carrier came out as 1, but i used my handy new homemade shop press and snapped them loose!! you shoulda seen my wife jump when it popped lol!! also used the press to pop the swinger bolt!! I pulled the top end, the cylinder doesnt look bad, about 67.5 mm. piston looks funky, someone clearly messed with it at some point. sounds bad when i turn the crank by hand. crank bearings sound grindy! i'll post some pics of the motor later.

Did you use the press to take the rear rotor off the axle? How? I'd like to have seen pictures of that. Or we're you able to get the hub of first and then use the press to seperate the axle from the carrier?
I'm curious because i bought another rusty 350x. The first one I tore down, I finally gave up and cut off the big axle nuts, the thread barrel, and the brake hub and still had to convince the carrier off the axle. What a mess.

not sure where this will go, only time will tell. gonna mostly be re using everything salvagable, with maybe a few tweaks! no idea on color yet, probably stick with some variation of the stock colors! Gotta wait until i get my shop done, been trying to get back to my oven build, just havnt had the time! hopefully very soon!!
as far as the axle, the break hub came off fairly easily, but the axle was frozen to the bearings.
