The master cylinder on my R is dead. Do they make rebuild kits or what is the standard procedure for repair in this situation? Thx!!!

Front master cylinders can be rebuilt. But I would find a newer one off of a bike or quad. They can be found cheaper then a rebuild kit on ebay.

Is there any risk of getting too much master cylinder? i.e. Would one off of a Yamaha R1 blow my calipers up?

Get one off of a 400ex, 450r, ect. Its a direct bolt on and I paid $35 shipped on Ebay for one that looked new off of a 08 450r.

all years of honda 400 450 quad front masters will work on either of your trikes... i run newer stuff on all of my trikes just picked up a 400 ex master to run on current build...things to keep in mind the trx 450r front masters have an adjustable handle all years.. the trx 400 handles are fixed position... but all the master bodies are the same between the 400 and the 45 0so you can run a 450 master with a 400 handle and vise versa

I assume you need to stay with the original caliper? Or is there a reasonable upgrade there too?

No need to upgrade the caliper.
