hey yall, so i have an 85 r, i just had the topend rebuilt, and was excited to get it home and break it in. unfortunatly, it seems that it isnt getting any spark, i rode it through a creek and fried my rings some odd months ago, could this also have affected my stator/coil/cdi? the water barley came over the exaughst flange, and the r was only in it for less then 20 seconds? HELP! i just dropped 350 in to my tri pod, and now this trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro happens......i need some advice fellas...

Ummm...I'm trying to figure out why you think the water "fried" your rings? The water could not have affected the internal top end at all, and only the stator if there was a major leak in the engine case and then it sat, full of water, for a long period of time. CDI and/or coil may have been affected by a heavy splash of water, but even that is unlikely, and would only have been temporary (till they dried out).

I'm more inclined to believe that you have inadvertantly unplugged a wire somewhere when you tore down the top end for the rebuild.

i forgot to mention that the water that was sucked in, had alot of sand and dirt, and when i said fried my rings, i meant it ate away at what little was left of them.
