I just picked up a 1 owner 200x for 150 bucks. It's all there, extended axle, new rear plastics, great seat and lights and the motors been punched to 300. So here is my question. He had a "ticking" so he tightened the valves down ran it for about 20 min then it shut down. Been sitting since 2005. Should I yank the head or just try to set the valves? Don't want to try and turn it over in fear of messing something up....where to start?

:D sounds like a sweet deal, I would check the valve lash , then fire that baby UP:cool: , if the valves are set right and it still ticking its pobly the timing chain , but I have one tha ticks its been doing it for yrs ,still runs good, when i get tired of hearing it i'll rebuild with a new chain ,but not yet it dont smoke so no rebuild yet,... punched to a 300 ? not likely ! :wondering dont believe everything you hear .. good luck:pics::pics::beer:beer:)

Really? That sucks. It does have a dura blue extened axle, supertrapp muffler, and a list of other parts. Maybe he got a little in to explaining it. Either way, tomorrow its on. Thanks for the info

sh.
I just lost my post so here's an abridged version.

x2 with jedi
check valve clearances.
manuals are in the 'world class help' section.
pull the plug out and see if it spins good

gas tank clean?
got spark?
give it a spritz and kick it over.
oh, check the oil or change it.
Sometimes gas will run thru the petcock and dilute the oil when they sit for that long.

hi compression punched out engines are a pain.
hard to kick/pull, hard on pull ropes and kick start ratchets.

have fun
keep it hidden or they will multiply.

keep us posted

:D still sounds like a great score , it,300 may be possible but bored and stroked and nothing left for the next rebuild , just thinking , might be just a 30 over ,:):pics:

Yeah I dont think there is enough room in the 200x jug to bore it out to a 300. People would be doing it all of the time if there were. He must have meant bored out 30 thousandths.

Still for a 1 owner trike you got a heck of a deal. The axle is worth that.

Multiply!!!! This is my #8 trike! Tell me about it. That being said I'm still a rookie. All the trikes I have purchased took very little to get running. This one being the most complete (100%) all there, seems to be frozen. What's the best item to put in the cylinder to see if I can get it to turn. I.E. mystery oil? WD? Or should I just tear it down?

300? Not possible ,lol. If he " tightened" the valves up and it ran 20 minutes. He wiped your cam and lifters. You can adjust them, and see if she'll run. She's gonna tap loudly I'm afraid. Congrats though! The axles worth more than you paid !

Found this stuff at fastenals that works great called "knock er loose". If the pistons froze up in the cylinder, that stuff will get the job done! And post some pics!

Pics are on the way!!! No luck yet, got rained in so hopefully tomorow will bring some luck. I'll look for the fastenall stuff.

Crash and burn!!! Metal shavings....no... chips on top of the piston!! So rebuild or replace? What's the most cost efficent? Or go with putting my 200s in it. What's all involved in the swap?

the swap is easy just use 200x intake /carb . then use the brake pedal off the 200s or 185 drill out the hole to 3/4 it willfit behind the footpeg the n hook up a linkage to the master. good luck ,, then rebuild the 200x moter at you lesure.

Finally got my phone to work. Here's a couple pics of my $125 find. Soon to be an autox until I can build the motor. If anyone has extra parts laying around please let me know. Any preformace info would be great especially if I'm going yo tear it down.

depends on how much you want to spend FIRST GET backcut kicker gears with a upgraded spring good thing to invest in for the long run. then i would do a xr cam, higher comp piston. would problay be the cheapest

The newer XR 200's still use the same kicker setup. I'm running a spring from a newer XR that I stretched out a bit extra in my 200x. Look the spring up on one of the oem parts finder websites, I forgot what year xr I got the spring from... It's been a while.

Here's one more for ya, the rear sags quite a bit seems as though the shock is shot. Is it worth rebuilding or taking a shot at fee bay?

yamaha driver

i found a upgraded kicker on ebay with the upgraded springs and ratchet pieces. i got it for like 80 bucks but it was worth it. and the shock i would get rebuild(i have to on mine still.) you can take a chance on ebay but what if that one starts leaking or is bad also. i think rebuild is only like a 100 bucks or less at a shop
