83 250r no third gear?

ok so last summer my brother bought a 83 250r and in the heat of the moment he bought in for 600 bucks because it needed a cdi so we get it home and the next week he buys a cdi so we pull the tank off to see that the frame has a slight crack so we welded it up ( he works alot and its just a weekend rider) so any way we get the cdi and it fires up and runs great ( dg pipe with fmf slip on ) so while driving it we discovered that every gear was perfect but third it seems almost as if someone took it out of the engine completely. there is no jult or any thing almost just like a second neutral but all the other gears are fine :wondering any ideas:rolleyes: it sure does rip though

3rd gears gone! Running it isn't a good idea. The chunks/ grindings are spread throughout your engine. Not at all uncommon to "seem" like that gear is gone. You need to split the cases and fix her up,,or find another good bottom end.

Prolly like how my second gear was. The little nubs that lock the gear in when you shift on the side of the gear wore away. Think every gear is discontinued so good luck. I ended up welding mine up then machining them back to side and shape or search eBay for gears or bottom end.
