I have an 85 bigred 250 that won't start. It will turn over but won't crank the engine, the starter turns fine but I can't get any commpresion.

Check Valve adjustment, valves seating,piston/rings/bore,, Paying attention too timing IF you go into the engine. In that order.

Is it new to you?
Did you ever hear it run?
or was it running ok and then just lost spark?
Does it have spark?
x2 w/ 007.
I've had the spark plug caps go bad.
You can unscrew it and hold the coil wire directly to the case and see if it has spark.
check with kick starter too.
Could be supersimple.
Pls keep us posted.
We all need to know the answer.

hi again.
Just a little confusing to me.
so then engine cranks over with the starter? or the starter just spins?
is there any engine resistance when you use the kick starter?
Do you have a compression gauge?
with the plug out, it should blow your finger off the spark plug hole
when the engine is turned over, cranked, spun or kicked.

Your description of the problem is not clear..what is the compression of the engine? Did you test it with a gauge?

The engine won't even try to crank. The starter spins and turns the motor fine. But the engine just won't do anything. Forgive me for my stupidity I'm just not very smart when it comes to engine mechanics.

You are confusing us with your terms..if the engine is spinning then it is cranking. I think you mean the engine is cranking(spinning over) but not firing. Is this correct??
Then comes a process of diagnosis..
Is there spark at the plug? (yes/no)
Is this fuel in delivery? (yes/no)
Is there proper compression (yes/no)
These are the next 3 important questions..you'll need to know how to check them.
Find the answer to these questions and we can help with the next steps. If you can't get a starting point for us then I don't know how we can help you figure out this problem.

those other things yet I'm at a friends house right now. I'm only fourteen so I'm not very smart when it comes to this kind
of stuff.

There is a difference between not being smart & being unknowledgeable.
I'm sure your smart enough..now you just need to become knowledgeable.
You admit what you don't know and that is smart, means you are open to learn!! Keep that attitude..it's good.
The rest you can get as you go with the right guidance..keep at it.
Hopefully your friend can help you gather some information if not maybe even figure out the problem. Ask us if you get stumped..but bring some data to help us!
