Hi Guys,
Is there a website or a way to determaine when a Yamaha Tri-Z was built by the Vin # as you can look up for Hondas?
The Tri-Z that I'm looking to research has the Vin: JY338W006FC000796
Any help is appreciated!

the 10 vin is a F thats 85,, the 38W in the vin confirms this to be a 5 speed also. looks to be the 796 one made in 85....I got # 300

Thanks a bunch! It sounds like a pretty early Z.
Were all of the Tri-Z's 5-Speeds, or did they eventually go 6-Speed like the Honda's?
The Tri Z in question was offered to me today....it's all there and runs, but it's pretty ugly. I thought it may make a fun project/restoration! It's the only one that I've ever seen local to me....in my neck of the woods, I don't seem to see them.

All of the plastic appears original and crack-free. I can tell that all of the plastic is/was yellow, however someone decided to paint the front fenders and the side vents black. The seat is red. (It's currently a real ugly duckling, but beneath the paint, it looks very decent!)
So, it appears to be a correct '85 it sounds. I guess it's a good thing!
