on my 250sx to start it i have to drain the gas out of the carb the turn the gas on and turn the ckoke on all the way. but after is started and warmed up the you still have to have the choke on if you shut ot off the trike dies even with me giving it gas. it runs real good with the choke on just idles real high.what could be wrong with the carb to make it do this.

Take it all apart and clean everything, pull all the jets out and clean each hole, OR order a rebuild kit for under 20$ and still clean the heck out of the carb, and as well amke sure the choke cable works good and the orings are fine on it. i swapped mine out for a lever off a 350x carb.

is there a better carb for this trike that you can just bolt right on and go.

yeah it sounds like soemthing is blocked by dirt or soemthing making it starve for gas making it only run on choke. take it all apart and make shure you clean every thing take all the jets out and clean them out and put it all back together.

As far as alternate carbs go... I have heard that the 86-87 carbs are supposedly better running/starting than the 85 carb. Dont know if this is true or not, I have an 85. Youre carb sounds like it definately needs a good cleaning though.

i will take it off and clean it i also need to take rear brakes off there locked up. i put new brakes and cable on and i still cant push down on the lever it probably needs a good coat of wd40 or something.it sucks only having front brakes with it idling so high the front just locks up and you keep on rolling.

350X carb is the way to go! I just put one on mine tonight, I love it! I compared them before I installed it and my findings were that the 350X carb is basically a bored out sx carb with a different bowl, choke mechanism, and idle speed setup. At least it appears that way. I also bypassed my airbox and let me tell you, that is a sweet sound you get to hear through the intake at WOT!

do you have to mod the 350x carb and will it fit the stock 250sx intake boot

He said the 350x carb was basically a 250sx carb bored out, so the intake diameter should be hte same.

Unless you have motor or exhaust mods you have to change the jets from the SX carb to the X - so you'll be cleaning jets no matter what you decide to do. If you don't like your choke on the bars you can use the 350X choke setup on either an SX or X carb. X carbs also allow for main jet changes on the trike as the bowl has a removable plug on the bowl.

By far the best SX end all problems carb is a 1987 - only way to tell is the stamping on the carb which starts with 08. These carbs start in any weather and seem to run smoother also.

Correct.
