Today, my buddy The Great Gazoo came over to help work on a little project. We got to go out and have a little breakfast. He got to see the damage to the 57 from some idiot in a huge box truck, long story. Then we came back and got started. What we did was start stripping down my rider 350x to swap some parts, and a reinforced powder coated frame. We got the engine in the powdercoated frame and alot of parts stripped off. Tomorrow we hope to get the front end stripped off and changed over to the other frame and we hope to get the rear swinger stripped off and changed over to the other frame and get it reassembled. I have a new rear swingarm bearing kit and a take off swingarm bolt if need be. My 350x had alot of take off parts which I had put on it over the last year or 2. I never took any pics, maybe a couple tomorrow, but you should soon see pics of this trike on here back in action. Going to concentrate my effort on getting the Nicholsons up to snuff and getting the Ascott 500/350x together and going. Should be fun. I really need space plus all the parts around everywhere is getting kind of crazy. I could also use the funds freed up to work on the 57 and get it how I want it.

146174146175146176146177146178Of course Gazoo came by again today. The pictures are a little backwards though. The pics I took at the beginning of today really show the progress we made yesterday. As far as today goes, we got the old swingarm out and into the powdercoated frame. Not all the parts have been refreshed though. The swingarm, we didn't touch, just out of the old frame and in the new. We put a nice used rear axle with some of the take off parts from the old frame as well. We found out that the handle bars with the old frame were really off something else and didn't work well with the triples, even though I had ridden with them for several years. So we still need a decent set of handlebars, and nice used taillilght assembly and still need a front axle spacer for the right side (the non disc brake side) as Lou Mielke hand delivered me the wrong spacer. You can't fault the guy for hand delivering a spacer, even if it's wrong. LOL Brian will come by after work tomorrow and we'll, hit the trike again. I'll have some new pics of todays progress. This trike is a mix of old and new. I had been putting some new parts and nice used parts as well as some take off parts on this trike over the last 2 years - last time this trike had ran. The new owner is just looking to get the trike going to have a really nice rider and isn't really looking for a super cherry machine. The rear swingarm came out like butter, so we didn't even put a new swingarm bearing kit in it. The rear bearing carriers' double row bearings were in great shape, so didn't replace bearings there either. Front wheel bearings were good, but a previous owner had installed an outer seal backwards (not me LOL) so I fixed that. Removed the used speedo kit that was on the trike as well, hence why we need the right side spacer. It has a new supertrapp rear pipe, but a used DG chrome header. I replaced the clutch assembly and basket as I had busted the basket removing it for the new clutch assembly. Lots of new chassis rubber and nos brake components as well as some used. Enjoy the pics.

pat my 350x is down right now to new bearings in the rear for your durablue swingarm

i like the use of the tubing to reinforce the frame in the rear, looks cool!!

Mike at HRE reinforced that frame. He gets all the credit for that. Moto, that swingarm will look super sweet on your 350x. But don't get any ideas about my HRE swingarm and durablue rear axle. LOL That is slated for the Ascott 500/350 trike. I need to get that frame powdercoated and started to reassemble after this. Wayne has engine things to do as I finally got the gaskets and piston up near him at least. Since we didn't end up using any of the polished lower fork tubes, triple trees or the front hub, I will sell those soon along with the nos fork tubes, all for the 350x. I also have a stock 86 350x lower triple I will sell as well. All polishing by Greg King.

Hmm. Get me some measurments Pat, I'll dig though my bucket of stuff and see if i have the right spacer.

We had to put the front axle in and the wheel on to roll the darn thing into the garage. I have no idea of where to begin to measure. All I know is I don't have one or anything close to one and the spacer needs to be almost twice as wide as what you brought. I didn't have anything to go by. If I can find my calipers, I'll get a measurement off the 350x speedo drive, but you know how well organized my house is! LOL

Lou, try 34.86mm for the measurement. I took the speedo drive gearbox into work since I can't find my calipers. Thanks for looking. We missed you sunday dude.

bigworm it's a Belair. http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php/142775-One-Chapter-Ends-and-a-New-Chapter-begins.
i'm curious to see how bad it got it, but that's something for another thread.
looking pretty good, nice way to recycle Vealmonkey. :beer

It says belair on the belt strip, but it's really a 210. I almost hate to post the pics 'cause I'm not real happy the car gets messed up not really leaving the driveway. Gazoo is stopping by again and we should pretty much have the 350x together except for the spacer, rear tail light and handlebars.

146250146251146252146253146254Gazoo came by again today. Got more done. The little things take longer. A couple more pictures. One of The Great Gazoo himself, my partner in crime. LOL Sure could use the right side axle spacer if someone seeing this has one. Looking for a complete 350x tailllight with all the rubber bits as well. A decent set of used handlebars if anyone has a set too please. I hope you enjoy the pics. Should be able to start it tomorrow and see how the
400ex carb works, but it may be dirty.

This was my rider 350x, that I hadn't ridden in 2 years or so. The Ascott 500/350x frame and all that is totally different.

Nice work. hope you find the spacer. Makes me want to bid on some spare parts so I dont run into the same. Things certainly dont get any cheaper these days. Good luck.

Ain't that the truth. The worst part is, when you are needing those couple parts, you'd pay a ton of money to have them right then and there.
I have the axle collar that goes behind the hub.
You want it? Just PM me your addy and I will send it out.

Hey, it's about time I chimed in here! How's everone enjoying the thread?
Today we had a major "no spark " issue, we tested the coil, good, then the on/off switch, good.
Pat has the Honda manual, & the next thing we tested was continuity on the CDI- we got nothing across all testing terminals of the unit, kinda weird, then, we tested the pulser, which was supposed to read, id I remember right, somewhere @ 3-400 ohms, & we got a reading of 338 kilo ohms.
This sems very strange to me, a bike that ran when parked & was in climate control for 2 plus years w/ out ever being started.........
Oh, one more thing- When I hooked the coil up, I didn't think the terminals were polarized & hooked them up backwards- All we did was gently push down on the kickstarter(plug removed & grounded on engine) to see if we got spark & we did not.
Did I screw up by connecting the coil backwards?

It's been a while since we could post anything more in this thread. Due to work, I hadn't had a day off in over a month and was working 12-17 hour shifts on the midnight shift. I finally got to rotate back to the daylight shift, so Gazoo came over and we worked some more on the 350x yesterday and today. Yesterday we got the clutch cover back on and got the goki starter ring on the flywheel and got that put on the trike. Gazoo picked up a couple things we needed and we got the flywheel tightened down and the stator cover on the trike and put the battery in the holder and got that strapped down with the supplied zip ties. We have the battery on trickle charge. Gazoo will come over tomorrow and we will get more done on the trike. We will get some pictures as well. Now I have to get into the classifieds section and look for a front brake caliper, as the one we have on the trike seems to have cracked or it had a crack but busted in half when we switched the front end off the old frame and onto the new one. I'm posting for Gazoo since he still doesn't have power from the weekend and the storm that came through the east coast.

Mosh, I can't find that collar, so I owe you some dough for that. Let me know what I owe you and how you want paid. I've been going nuts trying to find that axle collar. It's hell getting old!!! LOL Seriously Mosh, I want to pay you for that axle collar I can't find. Sorry Brapp, that posting for the taillilght was on May the 1st. We've picked up a taillight since then. Thanks for getting back to me about that though. Now if we can just get this machine running.
Pat, I might have an extra collar in my parts bucket. I'll have to take a look. If so you can have it.

BKM, thanks but I don't need a collar anymore. Mosh sent me an axle collar, but I needed the spacer for the front axle. He sent me the spacer I needed and he asked me to return the collar. I misplaced the collar to be sent back, so I owe him money for that. If you want to send me anything, send me some spark for this thing since we haven't found it yet!!! LOL We hope to be able to have this buttoned up today to try and see if we can find the spark. Where it went, we have no idea. This trike was running 2 years or so ago, then parked for some minor repairs and cosmetics, which got totally out of hand. LOL Since that time, my spark has seemed to have taken a holilday.
Ahh I see now. I wish I could send some spark your way, good luck.

150139150140150141150142Gazoo came by again Thursday July,5th and we worked on the 350x some more. It seems sometimes that when we make 2 steps forward, we go back one step as well. Got the battery in, took off the stator side cover again and reattached it. Got the starter motor on. Re-hooked up some wiring. Started buttoning the clutch size cover up again, and realized we had the decomp lever in the wrong position!!!! Same thing happened last time I worked on the 350x, had to install the clutch side cover about 10 times! These 350xs' sure do give me fits working on them. Here are a few pics.

lookin good bud. i sure wish you guys werent 6 hrs away... keep it up!
All the setbacks in the world can't ever take away the fun times you have wrenching with a good buddy. The best wrenching nights by myself can't hold a candle to cussing my as$ off at a bike/car/lawnmower/ect with a good friend. Keep it up guys its looking great.

The only bad thing about having a good friend around while wrenching, is they are a witness when I do something really dumb! LOL I've just been working so much that I haven't been able to get much of anything done. I've been looking for a couple extra sets of Tiger triple trees and I can't find the damn things anywhere!!!????

My spare time is so non-existant anymore, that it's not funny. When I do get spare time, it's spent mainly on catching up on all the things that a normal person does everyday. It's very hard for me to devote any period of time just to spend all day working on a single project. The most time I've devoted to anything lately is been on the 57 and it's really not that much time. The 2 people that help me the most, blue27 and SWIGIN, have been really busy as well. Gazoo keeps threatening to come over and help me work on my stuff, but we spend most of our time, which usually isn't much, getting his machines together. LOL If I could get a couple projects done, I would have some crazy running machinery!!!
