View Full Version : 350x Motocross Build - Pushing the Limits

I finally am far enough on this project to get a build thread started, so here it goes. I decided over the winter that I wanted to build my 350x into a motocross trike. This will be my last full trike build for a long time so I am going all out on this one and modernizing the chassis as much as possible to utilize off the shelf parts. The frame is in its final stages with Mike at HRE being fully gusseted and having TRX450 rear suspension linkage mounts added. HRE is also making a custom +2 swingarm which has the 350x pivot end mated to a TRX450 rear end. For the front end, I decided to go with Jason Hall’s Inverted Fork kit, running CR125 forks. The motor is a 425 Big Bore (Four Stroke Tech) matched with Webcam’s mid level cam (.370 lift, 250 deg duration at .040", and lobe centers at 109 deg). The exhaust came from NOS_350x and is made out of stainless steel and was custom made to my motor specifications. The rear end (axle, carrier, brake lock nut) are all Lonestar racing. I have parts coming in almost every day for this build, so I will be sure to post plenty of pictures along the way. As with most of my builds, this will be dyno tuned and I will post the charts at the completion of the project. Thanks for looking, xrider

can you give more details on the cr125 front end setup? i'm interested in it and how it works and the parts. i think I would like to do that to my 350x. I'm gonnan get it running and then start saving for parts for this sort of a setup.

I'd have to check next time I am up at the garage. It's definitely huge, but was built for the motor. The entire exhaust is a work of art, can't wait to here how it sounds with it. I'll try to get pictures up of the muffler and midpipe as well.

The CR125 front end setup is part of a kit that Jason Hall offers. He can set up the triples for a few different kinds of forks. I went with the CR125 forks because they are easy to find for a good price and can be ran full length on a 350x with an extended swingarm. Shoot Jason a PM and he can give you some more details.

thanks man! yea i was curious on the size, but cause if it's too big it could cost you low end performance was my first thoughts.

Hey XRider. I LOVE this machine - absolutely awesome. Just something to think about. If this is a "track only" bike - you'll need different rear wheels. You'll bend those in your first race without a doubt. I have mushroomed so many 10" wheels without reinforcement rings that I can not count them. Just a heads up - otherwise totally mint build!

Thanks Tim, It's coming out better than I expected. The rear rims and tires on this right now are off another 3 wheeler of mine. I have a set of 18 x 9.50 - 8 fast trakkers on 8" baja style rims that I will be using on this one.

Nice build man, and I aint no Honda guy.
I did tell some friends that "if I thought my wife COULDN'T RIDE, I would have put her on a 350X instead of a Z!" Lol.
Realy though, AWSOME BUILD!

Wow. That is really crazy. My friend is almost done with his 492cc with a 40mm FCR in his 350X. Makes me wonder what he will be getting.
Also did inverts but with a(our) "new" set of triples and 450r inverts and an extended swingarm with an elka stage 5 set up with a linkage.

Well on the way to Briarcliff for the inaugural motocoss race for it, we lost 3rd gear in the truck. Had to have our neighbor come pick us and the trailer up in Columbus, LOL. Looks like the first race won't be until May 27th. I did get to take it for a good ride when we got back and couldn't be happier with the handling and power.
