Ok, as much as it pains me to admitt defeat, looking for guidence here beats the other option of using a $1200 swing arm set up as a boat anchor! Im in the process of redoing my wifes 350X! I had a custom swingarm made! My problem is I bought a new Dura blue heavy duty axle +4"! it came with a solid round mount on the sprocket side! I also bought a Boss carrier bearing! Ive put everything together as the manual states but this round mount is butted up tight to my carrier bearing and it just doesnt look right to me! Any one else use this combo or can someone give me an idea on what im doing wrong? Thanks in advance! :wondering

I'm just learning a bit here but I'm curious if the swing arm carrier bearing is for a 85 or 86? They are different. I don't know about your custom swing arm but it could be just the wrong carrier. We need photos of the set up to help. But nice paint! My daughter would love it, she wants to do her 250sx in pink.

From what I understood this carrier is for an 86 as the 85s are almost impossible to find in the aftermarket world! After a bit of head scratching though I believe I have the issue solved but input would still be greatly appreciated!

EVERYTHING is powder coated! If I couldnt powder coat it, it was polished! As far as plastic, everything will be white, as well as white boots for the forks! She is dolling over pink Honda emblems for the tank and pink two pink fox, one to go under each rear fender! we are gonna have the 350X for the fenders custom made in pink as well!

can you post in the regular triksylvania section?? get a ton more veiws that way! i just stumbled across the thread, and the build is looking top notch, more people would like to see it, and could probably help you out with the aftermarket set up. I am more of a stock guy myself. when it is tightened up does it turn freely or is something rubbing?

05-08-2012, 12:42 AM

If you look closely at the brace for the sprocket, this is how it is supposed to sit but it was sitting tight against the bearing!
The snap retainer ring should not be exposed. If you draw up the 2 big nuts on the right side it is supposed to push the sprocket hub over that snap ring OR another way of saying it is those 2 big nuts pull the axle thru the sprocket hub till the snap ring is tight up (and inside) against the sprocket hub.
outlaw85
05-09-2012, 08:48 PM
jeswineheart...I appreciate that! This is the way the axle came from dura blue! I never even noticed the exposed ring! Good eye! I'll give that a try and get back to ya! Like I said, I just wanna know this thing is Solid! My wife has waited a LONG time for this...I want it PERFECT for her!

Not sure what you are doing for the upfront. I can't do you up a pink X shell until I get a new mold made for X shell project but the UFO number plates the Mrs. makes (yeah, gave her that mold too) fit the 350X rather well.
Not as fine as the tecates but very acceptable IMO.
She would have NO problem making your wife a number plate in PINK.
Here is a shot of a her vintage UFO number plate reproductions on a 350X.

I gotta admit, when I first saw the title with pink in it I was a bit skeptical. You have a good eye for color and I really like how the bike came out. Nice balance of grey on the motor as well. Very nice job. My wife would mosdef ride that! Great work!

05-09-2012, 10:43 PM
Thanks for all the compliments! I have literally gone over EVERY piece of this bike in my head for a color scheme that would work, and my wife is NOT a fan of HOT PINK so a soft pink had to do! I'll keep pics and updates comin!

05-10-2012, 09:48 AM
yup that sure is pink! but painting a 350x pink is like painting a monster truck pink, who the hell cares what color it is, its still bad ass, and can probably go places you only dreamed about lol..... now if it was an atc70, then it better be for your 5 year old daughter lol.....

Its actually kinda funny, shortly after the concept of the pink bike, the seat was the second thought and was actually one of the first things done for the trike! It just made sense, the wifes a little hottie so X Rated just made sense!! I'll try to get updated pics soon! Im actually working on a 1997 yamaha Warrior 350 rebuild right now with two buddies of mine! We have two we are redoing but the first is almost done then I'll have some time to tinker with her bike!

Another question I wanted to throw out at ya'll is...I'm not a hugh fan of the Goki electric start, but my wife is 100lbs and only 5'2", so her beltin this new 350X motor over isnt gonna happen! Im thinkin about ordering one, pulling it apart to powdercoat it and wiring it to a 300 ex switch! Any comments or suggestions on this? I wanna keep the trike sleek lookin, but it still has to function for her!

05-11-2012, 10:15 PM
Just found this. Nice work !!! Yes,,she will DEF need a Goki, and yes,,you can wire a 300ex switch in. FYI,a NEW 250EX switch is like $28?? they're dirt cheap. Probably no harder to wire in.

IMO, a properly adjusted decompression release + a properly adjusted/tuned 350X motor is a 1 to 3 kick machine by anyone.
My 100 pound wife used to start mine. Now, she never did catch on too the clutch, slowly release + rev concept,,,, but she was able to start it.
You can always add it on later, if need be.

A little late now, but a 300ex motor woulda been sweet for the little lady. E-start and reverse!
outlaw85
05-11-2012, 11:09 PM
We had concidered the 300ex motor but wanted to keep it as much 350X as possible! And we actually stole this crate motor! We were able to get it for like $500 so it was a no brainer! As far as her startin the thing...for some reason she cant budge it! Trust me she packs a 9mm every day! She is by no means a skidish, but she just cant roll it! lol

05-12-2012, 12:21 AM
no personal expierience, but from what i have read, the gear on the starter tends to lose a few teeth after awhile! cant handle the torque if the decomp cable is not functioning properly. parts are available though! i think they just look like hell! if you need it, you need it!

We ALL know how sucky it is when you slip off. Then the bike doesn't start, you slip off again and whack the same spot again. love it
outlaw85
05-12-2012, 08:34 AM
See thats what sucks! She saw me slip off mine and break my leg purple from the knee down so she is skiddish about it kickin her back and I feel the same way, that starter is a bit cumbersome and its not the nicest lookin thing! I guess I could bedazzle it!! LMAO
yaegerb
05-12-2012, 10:15 AM
I think if its properly adjusted, decompression, etc. she shouldn't have too many problems. I would have her try it without the electric starter first. Then, if its too hard for her to kick then get the GOKI. I also agree that they look ridiculous and they do have a tendency to chew up gears. I wouldn't mess up that seriously sweet grey you have on the motor with a gaudy hunk of steel hanging off the top.

Easiest way to start a 350x is to put your left foot on the right rear tire and stand up using your whole body weight to kick it.
If everything is set right it should start first kick or two. I can start mine on a cold start after sitting for days by setting the choke on the first notch acouple slow prime kicks to bring the piston to compression stroke then one good kick and shes making noise.
Personally, I think she will appreciate the Goki..Yeah almost anyone can start a 350X, but I have seen alot of big guys even have troubles with them. I know how your wife feels. Tammy is about 5'2 and 115, and she has to put everything she has into starting a modded 250R with a CR head gasket. I would think after a day of riding, her leg will be sore as heck, even if it does not slap her back.
IF nothing else get her some good riding boots, to protect her shin, or even a shin guard for soccer players, to slip over her pants.

I found an aftermarkret 400EX switch on E-bay, the packaging even came with a pin-out and diagram of the switch. Took me all of 10 minutes to get it hooked up to the 350X harness.

Murfman, its too funny, I have had a pic on my computer for a month now! I ran acrossed it somewhere and showed it to my wife! I picked that color scheme out for my bike while we were in the process of powdercoating hers! Gotta say, it looks EVERY bit as hot as I thought it would! Your pic of the Goki starter was a selling point! You have it married in flawlessly to look like it was a thought and NOT an afterthought which has been a big issue for me on this whole build! THANKS sooo much for sharing that with me! I was hoping to have the bike done for Bundy Hill as it is literally ten minutes from my house but a surprise trip to Phoenix came up and you guessed it...first week of June!

Well...I spent a few hours reworking a wiring harness for her bike yesterday! The original was just too far gone to reuse so a new one was needed, and it goes without saying...its wrapped in PINK electrical tape! After getting all the wiring together, I realized I wasnt far off a running bike so I hooked up all the wiring and popped MY gas tank on! First kick was like trying to kickstart an Abrahms tank! Kicked and kicked only to find out there was NO SPARK! UGH!! Retraced all the wiring and all looked good so I started on all the electrical components! First the coil, no spark! Put MY CDI on and boom...got some fire! Put the plug back in, hit the switch and two kicks later that BRAND NEW MOTOR was purrin like a happy kitten! I think this thing will have my undivided attention now till its done! Thank God the bike is for HER or Id be in the doghouse for givin it sooo much time! lol I'll keep yas posted as things keep coming together!

Here's a pic of the wife's 200X I built a couple of years ago, the frame turned out a little too light but she loved it so good enough for me. Actually going to tear it apart and completely re-do it before Trikefest ( I always wait to the last minute ) If looking for headlight options, I put an Acerbis on this one. Looks great and not too bad on price either. They have many more styles available.

Got the new sprocket and rear brake rotor while we were on vacation in Phoenix! They were waiting at the door when we returned! Need to get them polished up and on the bike before it drives me crazy! The closer this gets to finished the more anxious Im getting! My buddies are ready to start putting money into this project just to shut me up! lol We have also decided to take my 85 back to stock with a TOTAL refresh on everything, sell it and continue on with a few more custom builds!
