ok here we go, seems llike some interest in this ride this year. i havent been up the mountain in like 4 years. so might be a good time to get some trike to go up the auto road? mt washington is the tallest in the northeast and worth the trip up north country for the opportunity.

here is what i know so far. the nhatv.com club hosts this ride each year. the calendar on their website has it marked for the sunday 22nd of july, 2012. they usually do it from 8 am to like 2 pm. they will post the details soon' so i will c
keep checking for the finite details. this is up in berlin nh area so like 3 hours north of nh/ma border...... where the men are men and umm......

this is a few miles up in the air and if its a clear day can see the ocean. its worth the trip up. can plan an afternoon ride at success trail as well. mountain ride is only like half hour up and half down. hang out at top for a while but not an all day event. so we will ride sowhere else after words to take advantage of north trails. we can discuss this.

lets get some trikes up there this year. it would be cool and we usually get a lot of looks . shine up trailprotrailpro rides and cruise up the auto road. twisty part pavement and part dirt road. make sure u got good brakes for decent....;)

need nh registration and usually like 20 $ for entry.

More details to come who's interested????

Deathrocket

its enough elevation change to need going down a jet lol might wanna bring some spare parts lol

Deathrocket
05-07-2012, 12:46 PM
k one more post, what about us 2 stroke folks that can't putt.. are we allowed to pass and that sorta thing? I really don't wanna have to bring 10 extra spark plugs lol

fabiodriven
05-07-2012, 01:02 PM
Your bike shouldn't be fouling that many plugs. Dan just changed the plug in my R two weekends ago and it was the first time it's been changed since I acquired the machine at least 4 if not 5 or 6 years ago. My Tecate had the same plug in it for at least 3 or 4 years.

Deathrocket
05-07-2012, 01:26 PM
then i must be running rich, my trike doesn't like to putt or it fouls plugs....

TecateDan

05-13-2012, 11:53 AM
yeah there is success trail and jericho state park in berlin for riding options. i have only been to success trail a few years ago. so if any of u local north boys got any good intel would be great. i know success was pretty smooth trails and 20 miles each way.

any good bars in town........ camping or trails with big jumps.....?? pony up some thoughts, im open to hanging out up north.

if the weather sucks it wont be worth going up.

Holts revenge up jericho has some decent lips on the trails, there are some sand pits around the trails that are nice, nice pit up at success as well. Wouldn't know about bars ;)

OOH! sand pits, I like them :D

Amater45
05-16-2012, 10:57 PM
me too, especially on my FatCat :D which im thinking of using for the climb, i know its not a trike, but more rare on the part! Oh and to add, theres now a trail that rides right though town on the roads (riding on roads in town legally, i know!) and theres a trail that goes into gorham (as far as i know) and you can get to a hotel right on the trail. Don't quote me, Ill find out more once the trails are open and i contact the state.

fabiodriven

me too, especially on my FatCat :D which im thinking of using for the climb, i know its not a trike, but more rare on the part!

I can't speak for everyone, but I personally have always thought that FatCats and BigWheels fit right in with trikes. There are more than a couple of guys on this site that have those machines as well as trikes. Just don't bring a golf cart. Icky...

Amater45
05-18-2012, 03:53 PM
You have to lean like a trike on those, if you dont, either one of two things will happen:
1: your back tire will kick and you low side it.
2: your bike will flip on you!
its like a trike that leans! ;)

brrcuda
05-28-2012, 03:32 PM
i do like the jericho trails, i been looking at the maps a and the head pond side looks pretty sweet. so we will explore those trails while up there.

i am really not a camping kind of guy so need help in that department guys. ill go anywhere or even get a hotel if need be..... but should figure it out soon for reservation even camping i bet will be booked up for summer.

Deathrocket
05-28-2012, 04:49 PM
very possible... I will hopefully have my tow rig set up to camp in comfortably by then.. (crossing my fingers)

Amater45

Theres a hotel in my town, Berlin, that charges i think 35$ a night. Not the best place really, but some place to stay. theres also a place locally that you can camp for free, but no electricity or water hookup. Its on nation forest loop called Kill-Kenny (yes, odd name lol) but has a few nice places to camp. Its a few miles north of berlin, but not too bad. I think theres also Dolly coop campground, only a few miles from mt wachington. no idea rates there.

They are only allowing 400 tickets to be sold, so need to get there very early or pre-buy. I dont want to pre-buy if weather is bad though..... check out NHATV website for more details on mt washington ride.

Sunday, July 22nd, is the main event - Ride the "Big One" - Mount Washington. The highest Mt. east of the Mississippi River; 6883' above sea level WOW!!! As always, you must be a member of the NHATV Club. This is a requirement of the Mt Washington Auto Road. Again this year a free lunch of burgers and hot dogs with refreshments will be provided by the NHATV Club. Our club trailer will be there with club merchandise and Event 'T' shirts.

TecateDan
06-08-2012, 10:25 AM
Is 400 tickets a lot or not many?? It's 20 dollars to join the club plus another 20 for the tickect to buy it ahead of time which in reality isin't that bad at least to me. I really want to ride ot the top and don't want to be guy number 401 to try and get a ticket. IF we are there saturday afternoon/morning for camping and triking can we buy tickets that day???

Deathrocket
06-09-2012, 07:21 AM

OK guys. all the details i know are posted previously. I plan at this point to be there early Sunday to go up the MT. I think deepa is coming up but dont know about anyone else from here.

If my company decides to ship me to England that week, that could always happen. Otherwise i am planning to go up and be there early. I do believe they will sell out at 400 tickets.

As far as camping up there, i dont have any details so if you guys want to do that chime in.

Deathrocket
07-06-2012, 06:25 AM
I may not be able to make it, my 3 wheeler is still in 30 pieces, I do have a ticket, so if I can't make it I may sell mine if anyone's interested ($20)... I will know for sure by the end of next week...

I just bought 2 tickets, so as of now I'm in. I'll go no matter the weather, distant possibility work could call cryin' but cel service in the mountains is known to be spotty:p One machine is ready now, other will soon be ready...ready to be shaken down:rolleyes: I rode maybe 5 minutes this entire year.

I'll listen to the local higher elevations forecast the evening prior and post here what they "think" is gonna happen.

For those that think they'll make the trek, here is the higher summits weather forecast:
http://www.mountwashington.org/weather/evening.mp3
Ride goes from 8 am to 1 pm

Two of my buddies I offered the other ticket to both bailed on me, so I'll be going with two machines and two tickets. If they let me, I'll go up twice on each machine, but only my 86 is rigged with 3 gopro mounts.

See you at the top suckafools!

Dave Little

Not sure if the guy from Berlin went, but I got there at 12:30, the last run up was 1pm. I checked in, forfeited my second ticket, fueled up and off I went. I was really in a rush and stressed out from the ride getting to the mountain, almost did not make it. Tourists f*uck everything up here in the summer. I had the gopro going or so I thought -turns out I only got about 10 seconds of footage. I kept having to stop and switch which side of the bike it looked out on making my way up the winding switchbacks. Bike ran good going up, I was heavy on the brakes going down in neutral since all shoes were new and really didn't want to work an unproven (to me) engine too much, and I didn't want to listen to it wind up either.

I did see an 84 200ES there in pretty nice shape at the grilling tent at the base. One of the guys in the club had it just to show it evidently. He had a sign boasting it was an 83 & completely original except the battery. The fact that it was a shaft drive did not escape me. I thought it a bit of a shame- almost put out like you would see something imprisoned at a museum. I'm thinking "ride that thing you dummy"

Ride was nice, I went up in shorts, sneakers, T shirt, skiing goggles and a Panama Jack hat. The summit was 58 degrees and the base was 79. A nice 30 mph west wind cooled things off nicely on top. Being the only trike there I was a king among fools. Guys on 1,500 lb. quads the size of a fiat would sneer at what I was riding while the girls they were with would crack smiles in recognition as I rode by. I got many thumbs up from the motorcycle guys and a lot of odd looks from hikers/cars. People took pictures, little kids asked questions, it was great. I will most certainly be at this ride next year and wouldn't mind approaching the auto road for an independant trike-only ride sometime. Folks ask permission to drive all kinds of vehicles/equipment up the auto road all the time, so they are accustomed to dealing with requests and grant the majority of them.

Enjoy the phone pics gentlemen:

OK,
I know this was a while ago but turns out my gopro hero2 was recording for this ride, just not video. It was taking photographs every 5 seconds or so and managed to amass a collection of 1,600+ photographs of the ride. From time to time, I'll post a few of the wall hangers up here to keep the thread going, more after winter and as we get closer to the 2013 ride since it is scheduled to occur earlier than did this year's ride. I know it's early, but I want to see A LOT of trikes at this ride in 2013. I went back and was able to enlarge the pictures in post #62 and here'a a few to enjoy for now: gotta love those dumb looks:wondering:D:lol:

Is it colse to the trikefest date every year??

Dave Little
10-29-2012, 02:13 AM
Not sure Dan, I've only started following it recently. IIRC, the 2011 Ride when I first became aware of it's existence and did not attend was July 23ish. I'm only assuming it was the same weekend every year. If that is the case, 2013 will be the exception, the ride drops before TF on Sunday June 9, a good shakedown cruise with unlimited tickets.

As promised, here are this pics from the recent (June 23) ATV day at Mt Washington. For those following this thread from a distance this is New England's highest peak at 6,288 ft. Summit was in the clouds with a chilly 25 knot wind. Fog was extremely dense above 5,300 ft. Visibility was about 15 ft.

I had two SX's there, Ran into a couple guys that were not associated with this forum on the way down that stopped to cool their brakes. One was an '85 Tri-Z and the other a 200S. Good folks- the Tri-Z went up fine, but the owner mentioned it wasn't running right on the way down even at 4,500 ft. were we met.
Total count this year was 6 ATCs, up from last year at 2. The '83 200ES that was on static display last year made it to the summit as well as IronBear's 250ES was also in attendance.

Less than 2 weeks out guys. I just was on the NHATV site and it says that since tickets for this year are unlimited, they will not be sold online rather at the event the day of. OHRV registration is NOT required for this ascent. Price bumped up to $35 a rider I believe it was $21 last year. If I don't get called back to work I have plans on being there with both of my SXs

good ride. Def a cool experience. Only saw 3 other trikes there. A guy on a 200s, an 85 Big Red, and a guy i talked to that had a nice sx. pretty cool to do it. Its more about the mountain than about the trikes. it was packed. i'd be surprised if they don't make it a weekend event next year. i'd say it was 70% sidexsides. they are taking over. heres a little vid.

Are you running 20:1 premix? A lot of people see the old sticker and follow directions. The problem is today's oil is way different. I would run anywhere from 30:1 to 50:1. I run 35:1 in my 250r. My buddy runs 50:1 in his. I'm sure 50 is good but I'm a little worried its not quite enough for my whiskey throttle but I would never run more than 30:1. If your fouling plugs and or have oil dripping blowing out of the muffler then the mixture is definitely too rich. Hope this info help.

Hey guys, i really wanted to try this ride this year but it looks like they changed the ticket sales????
The site says both am and afternoon tickets are sold out and that they changed it so u can't get passes in the parking lot any more because of traffic jams. Any one from NH have connections for 2-3 passes? Just figured i'd ask. Thanx for any info. http://mtwashingtonautoroad.com/events/nh-atv-day

That must be fairly new because I did that ride five years ago on my Big Red, and my wife was riding the Can Am.

It is new this year. I messaged the NHATV club and went back and forth with them on the subject. We could make a stink if we wanted, I'm game. They blame the park for excluding trikes, but I asked specifically for the literature where three wheelers are named in black and white so I could see it with my own eyes and they were not able to provide that. 9 times out of 10 there is nothing to back these claims of it being an "insurance issue". There is room and time here for us to successfully petition this if we'd like to. You boys tell me what you'd like to do. I think it's unfounded and someone's preference personally, but I don't know that for certain yet.

I have been up every year for the last 4 years with my father and a big group on trikes. I have tickets again this year. They have always been very accommodating and friendly at the mountain. They dont enforce any rules. I'm sure it will be fine.

You would be the expert Dan, I've never even done this ride. I don't recall them ever posting publicly about having only four wheeled vehicles in the past though, so I hope you're right.

there is a Rokon club that rides it every year. All sorts of crazy machines that go up. Its like the Whacky Races cartoon. There is a method to their rule change though. I dont like it, and id be interested to know whats behind it.

DENIED!! Denied at the base of the hill this year. Infuriating. NO 3 WHEELERS ON THE MOUNTAN!! I had a long long long conversation with the event director, who kept referencing some mythical insurance issue. I was very respectful, focusing more on changing the rules for next year than getting in a shouting match this year. It ruined what has been a great weekend in years past. My dad is 74 and wanted to go up for his birthday. I built him a trike for this event specifically!!! disappointing. I'm going to work on it with some calls to the event planners and to the mountain. I'll follow up if need be with the chamber of commerce, the area hotels, and area restaurants. In the meantime, please go on trip advisor and leave a bad review and reference no 3 wheelers. It should be under Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center. I'll post a link.
