View Full Version : 85 Honda 200x weird noise Question

hey my 200x is makein a werid kinda of loud chirping sound when i give it gas dosen't do it when its just ideling runs fine starts fine and not lacking any power did a oil change yesterday found alot of metal shavings in the oil screen iv put a magnet in the oil screen to catch more metal there was alot of stuff on the magnet.

about 4 week's ago i replaced cam chain and cam chain guides and about 2 week after i was riding one day when i was coming home it started to make the werid chriping sound dosent sound to good when going fast sound's realy bad

i guess im gunna have to tear the engine apart to see whats going on any one have any ideal to what causing this sound

iv tryed to adjust the valves there in spec thought

I would check to see if your getting oil to the top end. With debris in the oil it is possible the oil passage got blocked.

Sounds like the lower rod bearing is starting to go . Are the metal shavings magnetic ? Top end shavings would mostly be alum non magnetic and the lower rod would be magnetic shavings .

yes they would be metal shaving there stuck to the magnet an other there's stuff that wont sick to the magnet. And for the bottom end bearing there no kocking in the bottom of the engine sound seem to be coming from the top of the motor but i could be wrong

Shortline is correct. The knocking from the top end could be the piston hitting the head if rod bearing is wore out bad enough. I have seen this a long time ago.

Some time and a gasket kit is cheaper than a totally blown motor. ;)

If it was mine it would already be apart. Some preventative work saves a lot down the road. ;)

YES,:eek: sounds like you dont have much choice,:wondering you might be able to save it :(, but it may be cheaper to find another moter or do auto-x ..:cool: good luck

Dose any one know where i could get a good Crank

hey i just riped off the cdi cover and the cdi advanser and it has a bad squeak when move back and forth think it could be this too its a little rusty too

Can you take a video of it and let us listen to it? I assume it would be noticeable on the video?

I would but i had takein the motor out in the afternoon. Im gunna try & clean the cdi advanser and throw it back in to see if the AkA chriping squeak is gone cause that is the sound im hearing when driving is the sound that the cdi advanser is makeing the chriping sound when i move back and forth it's a loud chrip squeak sound. and if the motor was running im sure it would be loud cause of the speed the motor is running at it would be spining pretty fast makeing that sound?

i will also take a video was out on the weekend with my buddies he had his gopro on soo ill try to get a video of use driving

but what if there was already metal shaving in the bottom end and the magnet in put in just picked them up?

Have you ever seen what happens when a connecting rod lets go on a 200x motor ? I've seen holes in the case , tranny shafts bent , cylinders damaged . A 20.00 gasket kit will tell you what's up .

yea my brother 200x hada bad crank bearing when he was reving it let go wrecking the whole engine but the kocking sound his was making is nothing close to the sound im having

ill have a video tonight uploaded i dont know if you will beable to hear thought while we were trail rideing but ill see

i think your top end is trashed. i think the little plug that goes in the oil blockoff is missing or not in right and is not allowing oil to the top end. that would let some metal down as the cam and rockers are metal and wear due to no oila nd woudl also explain the shaving sof alloy as the cam tore through the journals in the head. i think you need a whole new top end and oil pump.

$5 anyone?

(had it happen to a customer of mine and they had the exact same issue)

yea but iv been driving it like this for about 3 weeks now in mud huge sand hill i think it would have let go by now if it wasnt getting oil to the top end and im full throttle all the time driving about 4 6 hours or more every day i go out but i will have a video tonight of me driving it from the weekend. But i will take it apart to see if there is anywear or tear on the topend and this bike has had the magneto cut off cus it was striped so there still could be some metal pieces kicking around in the enigne

yea, still. i bet if you take the top end off and check it out, it's trashed. it'll run iwth hardly any oil in it, but will just ruin itself then eventually after a long time lockup and snap the timing chain.

Also have taking the topend off valves cam etc look ok havent gotten to the crank yet but eveything seems good
