Which do you prefer and why for summer/ATV/dirt bike/ etc: Full face or goggle style helmet?
We've got full face helmets for sledding, just wondering if the goggle style has benefits over full face.

Advantage: You can ride and smoke cigarettes.
Disadvantage: Road rash on your face if you wreck.
Best of both worlds is the type that covers your ears / neck and has a flip up shield.

I recently traded in my full-face helmet for an open face model with a flip-down visor that comes down past my chin.
A much more open feeling, better visibility, but still keeping the bugs, branches and dirt out of my face..also a good deal more air flow that I think will be favourable in the heat!!

I prefer the open face atv helmets. I agree, it has a more open and free feeling.

I have a snowmobile helmet that flips up making smoking easy and I like it but it does get a bit hot in the summer but at least I get use of it year round

I like using a motorcross style helmet with a pair of shooting glasses instead of goggles. The safety glasses keep most all of the dust and mud out of my eyes but still let air flow. I use shaded or yellow lenses during the day and clear at night.
I wear the same helmet in the winter on my M8. It's nice keeping a spare set of goggles in the warmer bag on the snowmachine and swapping out occasionally. I use a facemask thing to direct the air I breath out downward and to stop the wind chill. I made a thick fleece bandanna to go around my neck and chin. Works almost too well!
I don't like open face helmets. The full face has so much more structure to support the sides of it. More so on the snowmachine; I've hit windsheilds, handlebars and whatever was on the front rack of wheelers. An open face doesn't have anything to protect your face.

I like goggle style for riding most of the time. Only time i run an open face is when i'm mudding for better visibility.
Obviously fullface insulated with a fogg free visor in the winter.
Advantage of the goggle style is the nice breeze you get. Great for the real hot days, if i wear anything else i sweat like a fat dude.

I use a mx style with goggles. I've had enough bad experiences with open face. Ran thru a swarm of bees at 60 mph. Not fun getting the buggers out before you can safely stop. I've also crashed and thank God for a helmet! I only busted my hip. Could have been worse! Least I'm here to ride again.

It is actually really simple. For Complete protection. A shielded helmet. Obviously,a MX helmet w goggles looks the coolest. But,I have had COUNTLESS bees, birds, wasps,,bugs and general trash,,wedged back in by my ears to switch to the shielded. Yes,they don't look as cool,,and if you're,,dumb,,and rub and grind water and mud into the shield,,it does get scratched up ,hazy and dangerous. I never understood the open helmets,,I don't smoke or chew. The new flips are nice. I have those, but have never worn one riding.

I've always worn the MX style with Goggles, and dont have much complaints, but again I have nothing to compare it to. I would be willing to try a full shielded one, but dont think I'd ever wear a fully open face helmet. just my $0.02

Having crashed in both I highly recommend the full face.

Mx style helmet with goggles. Although the full goggles get hot on my face, my son's friend had a set that were more like large swimming goggles. smaller and not so hot around the face but full sealing around the eyes. But I always a helmet, if it gets too hot we will just call it quits till it cools off again.
