I just put new swingarm bearings in my bike. Went to put it back together and the differential wont line up to the driveshaft tube?? The bolt holes are off by about an 1/16/-1/8"
Don't get it, did not appear bent when I removed it all. I tried it with and without the rubber O ring on the differential case with same result.
I tried loosely bolting the driveshaft tube first, but now the diff wont get on the axle tube. MAybe it sprung after unbolting the diff???
What gives here??

So you disassembled the rear end completly? If so, why? You could take the complete rear end off in 1 piece.
Cant really help with the issue thought.

Depending on the year, 85 was a solid made swingarm and axle housing, while on the 86/7 the axle housing could be unbolted from the swingarm.
Post some pictures and I'll let you know what it may be

I took it all apart to replace swingarm bearings and axle bearings. The axle was missing the spacers too. Glad I did as water had gotten in and things were covered in mud/rust etc.
All cleaned out now, and new bearings in. We used 2 large C Clamps to align the front of the differential to the driveshaft tube and was able to get it together. I don't know why it was slightly off, as all surfaces were clean and flat. I post this as this may happen to other folks too.
Well back to riding

86/87 have seals vulcanized onto the bearing.
I just enter the right and then swing it in the left with the bearing on the swing as well as line up the splines on the d-shaft.
BEST thing you could have done was to knock our those tin pieces behind the outer race and drilled in 2 holes/tap them for a zerk. I think those are 1/4- 28.
fill the cavity with a would dowel to stop from using a whole tub of grease in there......You MUST remove the inner bearings seal.
I will not say it's easy to line all that stuff up and keep it clean; Hit up one of your buddies for some help :D
