hi everyone, im having trouble with my 225DX. i can get it to start only when i put a bit of gas directly in to the cylinder however it will die after only a couple of seconds. i'm guessig that only the fuel i put into the cylinder is burning instead of the gas from the carb. i was wondering if there's a problem with my carb or a something on the carb needs to be adjusted.
Thanks in advance
Owen

Carbs dirty, take it off, take it apart and clean everything up real good! Unscrew the jets and blow compressed air through them. Make sure you can see light at the end!

I agree but there is more to a carb than the pilot and main jets. be sure that all the passages are clear and clean.

make sure you clean the starter jet in the float bowl as well.

i currently have the carb apart and soaking in cleaner, spraying compressed air into the jets every few hours

like I said the starter jet is in the float bowl, see diagram http://www.hondapartshouse.net/pages/OemParts?aribrand=HOM#/Yamaha/TRI-MOTO_-_YTM225DXN_-_1985/CARBURETOR/YTM225DXN_%281985_ALL_TERRAIN_VEHICLE%29/CARBURETOR_%28YTM225DXN_-_1985%29 item number 9

I had made the assumption that cleaning everything was common sense. Just didn't want him doing the old " Hey guys i cleaned my carb " and really just sprayed carb cleaner in it.

When I took the Carb apart, my choke o-ring disintigrated as well as the gasket, so now I'm gong to have to wait until I get the replacement parts for it

it seems like the silver intake pipe is clogged because when i put air into it, the air doesn't come out from a different spot. the golden pipe intake works fine but is this the intake for the gas? or a breather for the carb?
