Ok I need to get a new timing chain and Honda Parts House has 3 different options. Of course I can go look up the engine case sn# but it has two part numbers for the two different case numbers and they have another option that just has 'timing chain' regardless of case number. Does this chain fit both or not? Or does it even matter which one I choose? Oh and its goin on a 85 250es big red.

I wish I knew.
Can't imagine getting it all apart and having the wrong chain.
D.I.D. is a famous chain company but maybe see if you can get part numbers from a few different sources.

I just started buying from a local shop so I can walk in and the prices are about the same as mail order.
I just went through backing off the cam chain tensioner so don't forget to do that too.

Might want to have some cam chain guide rails available or easy to get in case they're
grooved and chewed up.

What's the deal?
chain slapping noisy?
general rebuild?

Total engine rebuild from bottom up. I'll probably go with D.I.D. chain.

On a side note i got a crank for my 250es pretty cheap and the end that sits in the bearing in the clutch cover was mushroomed so i took a dremel to it and i think i took too much away. What will happen if the end of the crank has space in between it and the bearing?

They are the same, and as far as I know,,DID makes OE for Honda. I could be wrong. But I'm fairly sure they do.
