I dont think you will be dissapointed at all. I bet in a few weeks you will realize the huge advantage the 450R has.
i certainly would not worry about a lack of power.
it is 10 yrs old however, Make sure it starts on the first 3 or 4 kicks or the valves could be going.

the early CRF's have oiling issues, so beware of that. locked cranks are common.

well after the first few rides, i hate to say it i am verry dissapointed, great power in the low-mid rpm;s and aloways searchign for another 2-3 gears, but the supension and handeling are amazing lol i think i will stick with the kx500 and xr600 hearing is alot wider and keep this for a track bike. pr [osibily a tpc conversion.

Put a TRX450R front sprocket on it. They are 1 tooth bigger and that will spacer your gears out. If you are dispointed with the engine in a bike, wouldn't you have the same opinion when adding another rear wheel?

Sounds to me that the old '02 450 is tired..
maybe hop on a new one. Then again you are used to 500cc 2 strokes .
Give it some more time on the track like you said and watch it shine.

this is comign from someone who has ridden mostly 500 2 strokes, and my smallest 4 stroke dirtbike i have is a xr600 lol and someone who even got bored with the power of a 99 gsxr750 after a summer.

450's are smooth and nice...if you like power, 500 2 stroke is the only way to go. Find one in an aluminum frame, they handle awesome.
If I see you at TF Brapp, you can take my 02 450-500 conversion for a spin.

the worst part is the kx500 is more trailrideable and controlable than the crf lol
