Brain Teaser Question for the Yamaha buffs!

Maybe this is a simple question or I'm just over looking the obvious. On a Yamaha 225 possible other models too, why is there an extra wire in the harness that runs to the taillight? It also runs an 1157 bulb which is a dual filament bulb. I know in other countries the use atvs on the roads. Was this part of a brake light set up? If so how would it have been attached to the brake levers? So mysterious:wondering

My YTM225 uses a single filament bulb for the tail light. Two wires, black and blue. There is a pigtail on the blue. I have no clue what it is for (the wiring diagram says "not used spare connector").

All the wiring diagrams I have for the ytm's show a single filament bulb and the extra wire (blue). I think it was meant as auxiliary power for an accessory (just a guess).

Mine has an 1157 bulb in it but I'm sure now that it's not the stock bulb. I also noticed on my 350x there is 2 extra wires behind the headlight. I think they are for a speedometer or a tach. Seems like they might have had extra wires for accesories back then. Kind of neat.
