need help on this yamaha 80 dirtbike

I need help figuring out the year of this little 80 so I can order parts. thanks for the help

I had one very similar. Mine was a late 70's. Heck of a fun bike though.

Should have VIN number stamped on the neck of the frame. And then you can get VIN decoder on line and figure out the year.

i was going to say it had to be a late 70's myself too. i had a 77 yz80 and that one does look to be it, but check the side number plates. they are a little differant than the one stud's link shows for the 78 and my old 77. i believe that one you have is a 79 yz80. :beer

edit: ok just realized stud might be correct. that side plate is shown for the 78-79 yz80 after some more searching.

Good call Jonboy! I think you are correct. I wasn't positive, but I knew that year would probably be close for the parts he was needing.

I had a 1979 and it sure looks like mine (other than the condition, mine was mint) 79 was the last year for that style of number plate and the last year for metal gas tanks. If I could see the heat sheild on the pipe I could be sure as I recall the 79 was the only year they had slots that ran at an angle. Good luck finding parts, I rebuilt a 1980 YZ 80 in the early 90's and parts were hard to find then.
