picked up this 74 last fall and been mostly taking my time with it. figured i might as well get a thread started on it.

the day i first saw it sitting outside the local 3wheeler mechanic guru's house. not all there, but it ran and was ridable. front tire is original, but worn and leaks. all the bearings are tight and smooth. brake works great too, dang near threw myself over the bars it works so good.

stuck it in the basement for the winter and started messing about with it. gave it a bare basic inspection and found a few small problems, but nothing too bad to that point. cleaned up the motor, sanded/painted a few parts and removed the Harley sticker off the headtube. found a 3/8ths hole under the sticker. figured someone tried to mount a headlight? or a grease zerk? still need to get that welded up. stuck some old bmx pegs on it since the rubbers were munched. seat cover is cracking and is so stiff it's starting to unhook itself from the pan when you sit on it.

fenders are ok i guess. front has some rub marks from the motor, but the frame is straight and someone had just mounted it on the upper holes causing it to rub. rears have been stitched, primed and painted though.

the tank seemed fine i thought till i put more than half a tank of gas in it. started leaking gas on the head so got it pulled off. after digging deeper into the tank i found it was basicly swiss cheese along both bottom edges. JBwelded the bigger holes and poured in some Red-kote (was over 2 year old stuff) and fixed for now.

took it out of the basement and putted around the yard to find the carb leaking from everywhere. you could see it rippling down the side of the carb it was so bad. ordered a rebuild kit from www.hondaatc70.com the kit i recieved was for the US90, but everything in the kit worked except the main jet.

as of right now this is how it sits. newest thing is it has trouble shifting after it gets warmed up, so that's the next on the list.

short vid of it running, might take it to the river and open it up. right now with the straight pipe, everytime i start it the only thing i can seem to get done is pissing off the neighbors.

still have plenty to do on it before next year when i hope things fall into place and can get my butt to TF13. :beer

took it out to the river trails today to set the carb adjustments better and to fully open it up. carb to manifold leaked a bit, just needed tightened down a little to fix. i need a new gas cap (rubber ring atleast) for sure. need a new front tire, the original keeps going flat now for some reason. stayed aired up all winter, but now it's not? :wondering clutch was slipping and tightened it some more, still slips a little and wants to creep when in gear now. complete clutch kit and HD springs to come soon. other than that and the other few things it needs, i'm very happy to know it's actually nicer mechanical wise than i thought it would be when i first got it. had a fun time though and saw some guys on quads there, got a few looks and stares.

70 has been sitting all summer, so i figure it's time to start messing with it. needed to get something on the tank after sanding on it so i grabbed what i had. now i'm a bit of a purist and like things how they're suppost to be, but i'm liking the white tank. i think and have had a couple people say to get a blue seat and i have always liked the red, white and blue theme on some of the Hondas. not keeping it original does kinda feels like sacrilege to me, so i'm not sure what i'll do just yet when it comes time to paint. still have a good bit of time before it comes to painting though.
