Not looking for performance, looking for good quiet exhaust system options. Would be nice if it also had a spark arrestor.
I was looking at the DG RCM II but everyone says its louder and no spark arrestor. Not finding much else online thats available new that fits this 84 BR.
Mine is rotted out, the muffler is leaking in three different places and the headpipe is getting THIN in places from rust. So i would like a complete bolt on system to just replace the stocker. Its loud and getting worse as pieces fall out from running it, LOL.. I think its only a matter of time before the headpipe busts up also.
Any suggestions??

Well the DG RCM is ordered... I just don't see any other options so i will get a spark arrestor or make one for it, they aren't too picky here as long as it looks ok. Fun thing will be removing the stock exhaust, i have the bolts on the cylinder soaking, i have been spraying all day with PB Blaster.

I put a DG on today, i don't consider it loud at all! Its MUCH quieter than my stock muffler, though it was full of holes, it also passed the test of the dB meter and i got my city ride permit today, oh happy days!!!
The stock muffler is available, but at $184 for it i won't be buying one. And that's just the muffler, my pipe was bad also, paper thin on the front bend. That would have been another $66, plus the gasket, new clamp for the muffler, it would have been about $270 plus shipping. The DG was $149.50 with a gasket shipped one day from Dennis Kirk, ordered yesterday received today. Took about twenty minutes to swap it, taking off the old stock exhaust was much harder than bolting on the DG, not sure why everyone has posted how they fought these, it literally took like five minutes to bolt it up. I ended up using a sawzall to get the pipe and muffler separated to get the stock exhaust off, the front end of the pipe crumpled when it dropped on the ground. The only thing i don't like about the DG is no heat shield or bolt points to re-use the stock one, which i can't get off the pipe yet as the bolts are welded solid with rust into the pipe. Think i will just get a universal one or put on heat wrap but the heat towards my leg isn't uncomfortable enough to worry me yet.
The idle is smoother so i know the stock muffler was plugged, the top end is much stronger, and its not fouling the plug anymore, its also not running lean, the plug tells me its perfecto! Stunk like heck for a while as the pipe burnt off some paint but that went away with a short ride. Its so nice not hearing whirrrr pop pop pop as i come to a stop now.
The exhaust is so quiet now i can hear the valve noise, time to adjust the lash on them!

wow, was unaware the stock muffler was still available!! never would have thought! i have had a nos one in a box for yrs!! guess its not what i thought it was!! the headpipe is discontinued though! the headpipe is shared among all the 200 models i believe, should never run out of those!!

Kb0nly: That's good to know. I have an '84 BR as well. Nice to know there is a descent option still available for it should my stock exhaust give up the ghost...

I would definitely buy the DG again... As i said its not loud, it has a nice note to it, more of a deeper thump thump thump then the stock exhaust, but its not annoying or loud and under acceleration its no louder than every kid flying by here in their vehicles... LOL
At full throttle its definitely quieter than my stocker, but then like i said my stocker was ROTTED...

I know, when i saw that after pulling it out i was thinking to myself how is the rest of the trike in such good shape? I think the guy that owned it before me road it around the county roads a lot from his farm, maybe some road salt corrosion to blame i don't know. The rest of the frame and skid plate have very light surface rust spots here and there, about what you would expect for something this old, but that exhaust looks like its been through a lot worse!

kb0nly: I'm looking on denniskirk.com at the DG RCM II and can't really figure out which one fits the '84 200es. If you still have it, can you tell me the part #? I've got to replace my stock muffler and head pipe also. Thanks!

The exhaust..

Exhaust gasket..

Took me some digging on their site to find it as well. The sort by model doesn't work that well.

Nice kb. I've been kicking around getting a new exhaust and muffler for my ytm200k. I saw the DG on Denniskirk, but I was afraid it would be too loud based on what people say.
So it's pretty quiet?

The DG is louder than stock, but i wouldnt call it annoying loud, but thats just me. It has a nice bassy note to it, not a rattly fart can sound to it like these ricers buzzing past.
I got a set of universal heat shield mounts from Moose Racing, and put on the original heat shield using those, its not a perfect fit to the contours of the new pipe but it works fine and keeps the heat off the leg.
As for spark arrestor, i don't really need one as i don't ever ride on state trails here, but if you need one for the trails you ride then you can get a spark arrestor from DG for an extra $25 that goes into the end of the muffler.
