hello,
I am in need of some advice, our family owns a yamaha 200e witch we use on the farm, we bought it new in 83 or 84.
I recently pulled it from the shed and got it running good. my uncle who is the owner, now wants to trade it for a new polaris side x side at the local dealer. I realy
love this bike and i dont want it to leave so i am going to ask him if i can buy it. how much should i offer?? the plastics are in decent shape, no cracks but the gel coat is gone on most of it
the seat id good, the motor runs very well, but it somes ALOT. i dont think the polaris place will offer more then 2 or 300 for it, is that where i should start??

I'd offer $250 top, you could part it out and make few bucks if it came to that.

Sounds about right $250-$300 some where in there. I am suprised a dealership is even messing with a 3 wheeler due to its age.

I just paid $385 for this little beauty yesterday and I couldn't be happier...
The polaris place probably won't offer him a thing.
What are they going to do with a 28 year old three wheeler..'those things are dangerous, don't you know'. They can't resell it!!! Worthless to them!
It's your uncle, offer him $150. He should jump at the chance to keep the old girl alive and in the family.

IIRC those pull some real easy wheelies.

yup it wheelies like crazy
i will offer 200 and see what he says. it needs a top end realy bad but that would have to wait.
i have pulled out trees i didnt think our john deere 2305 would, i have gone through muddy water 1.5 feet deep.
it is unstoppable, slow as hell but fun none the less.
ps would it be possible for anyone to point me in the direction of a owners/user manual??

[QUOTE=would it be possible for anyone to point me in the direction of a owners/user manual??[/QUOTE]
I have:
Yamaha YTM 200/225(K-S) Service manual
Clymer YTM/YFM 200/225 83 to 86
Haynes 3 & 4 Wheelers 1980 to 1985
and would be glad to scan and email any pages you need.
I think I could part with the Clymer http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Moto-4-YTM-YFM200-225-Service-Manual-1983-1986-/380232796753?pt=Motors_Manuals_Literature&hash=item5887a40a51&vxp=mtr (like this one, mint) for either $15CND or two dozen potato & cheese perogies:drool:. I'll be driving up to WPG the second week of July and can drop it off at the home of someone you may knowthere as I'd rather be fishing than looking around for a post office. If that's too long to wait look on ebay, they are lots there.

Or just buy this one and forget wrenching. If seen a few like this sell for under $600 and it makes me sick as I spent $$,$$$.$$ redoing mine. Unfortunatly I like wrenching as much as I like riding, so make a lot of unsound mechanical purchases, but if you just want to ride you'll save a lot or $$$ buying something like this. AND it comes WITH a manual!!!:Bounce

I take back what I said..the polaris dealer will definitely not offer him anything!!
Uncle should be a good guy and give it to his favourite nephew..a smoking 200e isn't worth a cent. But to you with some love and attention the nostalgia value alone is worth the time..probably give you another 25 years..
Or take 'El Camexican' advice and buy another in good shape..it will cost you less in the long run.
