Hey 3wheeler world. I have an 1984 Honda 200X 3-wheeler project (I'll try to get some pics up) Currently I have $300 saved and need about $300 more for parts and installation. The trike is getting these BRAND NEW parts
-Crank shaft assembly
-Piston
-Valves (valve springs etc)
-Timing chain and sprocket
-Cam Shaft
If I'm going to basically have a brand new engine I want it to look nice. Does anyone one know of a good way to sand/paint the engine without a sand blaster. Do to the fact I am 15 and have no job (yes i tried looking) I don't have a paycheck to go get work done by professionals. So I was hoping to sand/paint the engine at home but I don't have a sand blaster. If I paint the frame does it need to be powder coated or will regular metal paint come off to easy? Hopefully I'll sell my dirt bike here shortly to get enough money at least get the engine rebuilt. Thanks for the help everyone! :TrikesOwn

get some lower grit sandpaper and go at it. 320 should do the trick. Then finish it off with some lighter grit. I use PJ1 fast black engine paint. Looks really good. Don't go gloss black. Any other questions, send me a PM.

I found that washing the engine cases with supper cleaner and a hard brisle brush under hot water would remove the paint on the engine cases

if your going to ride it why even bother repaint the motor to make it nasty. save some money, buy 2 cans of engine degreaser and take it to a car wash and blast the motor clean so the fins can breath good. besides that who care what the motor looks like unless your never going to ride it again.

You don't need a sand blaster. As others said just wash everything with super clean and a brush. Put on rubber gloves and spray the super clean on straight and brush until it's clean. As for paint I used plastikote engine paint. It's cheap and gasoline resistant. I hosed mine down with brake cleaner and none of the paint came off. I'm happy I found that paint, it's cheap and works like a charm. I used the ceramic coat high temp stuff once.... Never again unless it's on a header that fits in the bbq grill so I can bake the heck out of it.

Yeah, I guess you are right, It's all just going to get nasty and scratched off again.

I polished my left side cover. Much nicer than having the paint wear off by the shifter. After I wash I polish it a little by hand and she's good as new. It was a little work initially to polish it but it does look good now.
