So today I finally was able to get back in the garage after a month and a half because I wrecked on a quad and broke my hip.

I got my 83 200x back together. I bought an engine off a member of the boards and bought a few new parts.

So I gassed her up and started kicking. I finally got it to turn over.

Issues are- there seems to be NO throttle response.
- I'm have an exhaust leak where the exhaust connects to the pipe
- Not sure but I think its a little smokey?????

Here is a video:

your carb slide could be 180 degrees out. Pull the cap off and ensure its in the grooves correctly. It is a bit smokey...hard to say if its an issue yet. Ride it around a bit and see if the smoke clears up. If it doesn't then I would say you need some rings.

Do you mean my carb slide "screw"? Turn it all the way in and turn it back out 180*?

no, the actual slide in the carb. Take a look at the schematic below. Its number 7

he means the slide inside... make sure the long groove is on the lower pin and the short groove is on the upper pin

Try another coil.

OK! You were balls on! I twisted the slide and it dropped and I readjusted the cable.

I adjusted the idle screw and it idles good. Anything beyond 1/8 throttle it bogs down. I adjusted the other screw in several positions but no help.

TOO much fuel correct?

glad that worked!

Now, you need to adjust the pilot screw (the tiny screw on the front of the carb and by front I mean where the carb connects to the intake boot). Start adjustment by lightly seating it all the way to the carb, then turn the screw out 1 and 3/4 turns. After that is complete you will be at factory settings and don't adjust anymore! Also, your needle clip should be on the 3rd groove from the top of the needle.

Ensure those two items are set properly and then see how it runs. Also after you adjust those two items you can set your idle screw, which if you are sitting on the bike its the little screw on the right of the carb.

I'll go check that out!

Let me ask you this. The engine I bought had a fresh bore and a wiseco 10:5 piston. It also has a new DG exhaust. Could I be wrong and need a new main jet?

quite possible, I was about ready to ask if you had done any mods to it. so with the better exhaust and the 10.5 piston you will likely want to jet it up a bit. An 83 carb main jet is a 110, but if its bogging it sounds to me like a rich condition. Best case, if the adjustments I mentioned earlier don't work, go spend a whopping 5 bucks at the honda dealer and get a 108 and a 112 so you can move it up or down. Jetting isn't an exact science. Below is an article that has helped me in the past.

First though, try to set it up as I posted earlier and see what that does for you.

Excellent Article on Jetting

What kind of air filter do you have? Have you tried to remove the airbox lid to see if the bogging goes away? If its a stock air filter it could be restricting and bogging the motor down. Just another thought.

VICTORY!!!

So I went through all my jets and they are all in the 300's. Honda Oddy Jets.

I took off the bowl just to see what jet was in there and the main jet fell out once I cracked the bowl open. I screwed it on and made the adjustments you recommended! Fired right up. I gave it a few sharp throttles and it responded nicely. It's 8:30 here so trying to be respectful to the neighbors. It's F-king tough cause I want to RIDE!! lol

Thanks for your quick responses yaegerb!!! You rock!

Tomorrow I'm going to put a picture album together for this build. I'm glad I took pics of it when I first got it!

No worries brother, by the way, I really like your color scheme. Never seen a 200x with black and green and I do like it.

Have fun!
